Should we stay on BST?

Post by ComeOnYouOs »

Now the clocks have gone forward on to BST, should we leave them there, or is turning back to GMT a good thing>

It is the cry baby Jocks who like fiddling with the clocks. Give 'em Independance and we can make a few sensible decisions. Like BoJo as permanent PM ( wait a minute !)

To be fair, if the clocks didn't go back then sunrise up there could be as late as 10am.

Stay on summer time permanently, gives you more leisure time in the evening. Scotland can have a separate timezone.

It doesn't alter the amount of leisure time in the evening. You will still have the same amount no matter what time it says on the clock.

I like your idea about a separate time zone. Yet another great idea emanating from our colonial masters that will assist the independence project. It proves how much of an after thought we are.

I voted for the first option, but I meant just stop f*cking around with the clocks and remain on GMT. Scotland will be fine (and it stays lighter later here in the summer time anyway)

Sort of, but you have to account for the fact that we're stretched over a curved surface of the globe and the planet is always tilted.

UK should be on Greenwich Mean Time. That way it is at the centre of the world. Brisbane Road is only a mile or so off the prime meridian. My old house was on it.

Sure, but my point is that timezones follow longitudinal position - East to West. North to south climate variances, varying hours of daylight, occur on the same longitude i.e. the same time of day.

It explains why a position on a 2D map may experience different sunrise/sunset times in comparison to positions of similar longitude, hence why a country may want to consider a different time zone. Obviously it would be completely bonkers for there to be different time zones between England and Scotland. Which, I guess, means we probably shouldn't rule it out.

Weekday mornings are generally crap (commuting) so give me an hour of light in the evening to go outside after work over a lighter morning to travel in any day.

But wed get brighter mornings & darker afternoons . Youd have the lights on an extra hour at night & off when you were still in bed . Seems a waste of an hour to stay as we are .

Get up earlier, go to bed earlier. When I worked on building sites, had to start at 8am and finish at 4pm in order to work during daylight in the winter. Fortunately pubs closed at 11pm back then. Also not opening until 5pm after lunch was handy as it saved me going straight in after work.
