My mum had her funeral a week & a day after she passed away
Yet my Uncle who passed 36 hours later was buried 2 days before her.

In Ireland 3 days is seen as very slow which was the case for my uncle.
My Wife's funeral was 1o days after she died, I needed the 10 days to come to terms with having to arrange a funeral.

I fully understand that Whittle .

I was 23 & did the original arranging for.my dad which happened just after Easter so there was a backlog & an 11 day wait. My mum was having kittens as in Ireland he would have been buried within 3 days post mortem & all.

My mums was 8 days as hers was just after xmas , but with no post mortem , it would have been sooner if ut was a regular burial or cremation , but was a catholic church & we had to marry church crematorium etc to a date good for both. Also a niece in new zeland had to fly home.

My dads brother as i have said died on a saturday night/sunday morning on the operating table , had the p.m monday nmNew years eve & was buried on the wednesday.

My Cousins on my mums side run a pub with a funeral parlour back home in Co tyrone & were on the phone asking my mum if everything was ok & why the delay in my dads funeral. They were shocked to learn it took so long .

They did my mums cousins funeral in Philadelphia a coupke of years back & like in Ireland the whole process
was concluded within 3 days again another catholic ceremony.

Strange how it varies from country to country .

I couldnt think of anything worse than waiting so long , but as you have said it felt like you needed time to deal with it.

They are Horrible to organise & attend but hopefully there are stories & chats with people that help to keep the memories alive & some small amount of comfort to those who have lost someone .

Family and close personal friends funeral and then a thanksgiving service in a larger setting so the likes of us can pay our respects
