JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
Interesting that Crawley have won three on the bounce and have played themselves into playoff contention. They are six points off but with two games in hand. Interesting that JMD is starring for Crawley on the right wing putting in deliveries to TWO central strikers. They have averaged about 10 shots a game . Surely this will never catch on. Apparently, the fans cannot believe that Orient have let him go.
Seriously, isn't this all a bit embarrassing ? We.ve got Angol, Soitrou and Dennis injured. We have got our right winger playing for a rival and our left winger playing at left back. We've had our centre forward playing right wing for most of the season. Now we are scratching our heads because w'eve mustered about 3 or 4 shots in 3 games. Its not really rocket science is it. We've had poor DJ isolated up front on his own and its a miracle hes scored the goals he has because of the limited chances he has had.
Travis said that we were going to take risks but wheres the evidence ? We've played all season refusing to adopt to a 442 and exactly where has this got us ? Is there something in the rules that says we cant start with 2 central forwards. If memory serves me right we did quite well with Kitchen, and Mayo, Lisbie and Mooney and Bonne and Koroma. Now the season is blown anyway playing these negative systems so why not give 442 a go. Maybe it would be too embarrassing for the managerial team if it worked... Id have more confidence in Jobi if i heard that he was trying to get JMD back so we could at least try this tried and tested system and at least give the entertainment back to the fans.

I doubt he'd come back, imagine we have burnt our bridges. Sad as he had a great cross on him.

Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
Its no secret on here, that i believe the current old boys network running ( or is it ruining) Orient, havent got a clue, Macklin exempted.
JMD had been here for the first half of the season demoralised by the crap tactics, and Ross's lack of knowledge.
We should be kicking ourselves for giving this talented young man away for free .
Its still not too late to offer him a decent contract in the summer, and hope he decides as Ross is no more, he can come back.though i doubt he will while were still playing this 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 or whatever

Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
Tbf, I reckon one of the reasons we moved on from him was that he was either wanting far too much for his next contract or had told us he wasn't going to re-sign. Going to his hometown team on loan might have been the only transfer he'd accept in the meantime to move him on under the current covid situation.
Given his form there was nothing to suggest he'd perform well for us this season. Sometimes it just works better for someone if they get a move elsewhere. He's far from the first to benefit from a move and won't be the last but it's just something for the never happy brigade to have another whinge and whine about.

Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
Said at the time it was weird that we’d give him to a rival (at that point we were close to them near the playoffs).
He’s been hit and miss but I’ve always really liked him. A touch of class we lack. But no doubt his orient career is over.

Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
Yeah, great technique and skill, not so good or willing defensively. I was very keen for him to play in a sort of number 10 position for that reason as thought he'd be really effective there but without a genuine target man that wasn't going to happen. With the likes of Wilkinson, Brophy at times and Sotiriou on the wings he was always down the pecking order there. And Wilkinson and JMD on the wings in the same team would mean us being picked apart on the break even more than at present.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 7:57 pm Said at the time it was weird that we’d give him to a rival (at that point we were close to them near the playoffs).

Jobi is a wonderful example of a pro footballer. He seems a really nice guy who is full of charisma. I see no reason why in the ever changing world of pro football, which JMD is fully aware of, that if approached in the right way he wouldn't return. The only exception to this is if the DOF has burned the bridges, it would be nice to get some answers on this issue.

What if he has decided to try his luck with free agency though?RBMarshall wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 8:04 pm Jobi is a wonderful example of a pro footballer. Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
We can’t play 4-4-2 because we still haven’t got 2 midfielders that could play the central midfield roles.
Hector is the only one that really can, and he’s not fancied.

It's extremely irritating we didn't play 4-4-2 earlier in the season . We've got no chance of the play off's now because we're miles off the pace.

Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
TBH, my gut feeling with absolutely no evidence is that Jobi was an extremely influential assistant for Ross, mainly due to the lack of Ross's playing career, so I suspect he doesn't fancy JMD either but I could well be wrong.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 8:22 pmWhat if he has decided to try his luck with free agency though?RBMarshall wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 8:04 pm Jobi is a wonderful example of a pro footballer. We all know in a manager we need tactical nouse, motivation and recruitment skills. As sh*t as recent performances have been under Jobi, we really do need to judge him on recruitment in the summer before we will really know if he's got something about him. That's why the interim job title worries me a bit.
I also know Orient fans are unlikely to show this much patience if things don't pick up.

Some of us are gobsmacked that we let JMD go. I am. One of the most talented players we had in my opinion. Maybe needed to get him to up his work rate, but that’s it.Four four two wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 7:21 pm Interesting that Crawley have won three on the bounce and have played themselves into playoff contention. I think Ross wall hell bent of getting the Ling/Wilkinson partnership going, a regular feature, players who threatened that were offloaded or ignored.
Another fine mess.

Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
I'm not sure he was handled correctly. He said himself he needs a run of games to get up to speed and never got that here this season. He probably also likes an arm around the shoulder and never got that either hence an unhappy player.

Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
While he had obvious flaws to his game which was clear for us all to see; he was a player who could give you something different creatively. That’s been the crux of our problem this season, that the tempo and build up play has been slow and never really got going in a game in the last 3 months. Shame really as we could now really use a flair player who offers a bit of bite.

This exactly. Some of our decision making this season has just been bizarre.Four four two wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 7:21 pm Interesting that Crawley have won three on the bounce and have played themselves into playoff contention. I like him.
Obviously there are flaws to his game, and he has to improve. But he’s still only 23, so has a bit of time yet.
I guess the decision the club took was that Kemp was the better bet.

Brophy on the left. Wilko/JMD on the right. If we persist with 433 that gives us some creativity.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 9:16 am I like him.

Don’t dislike Kemp. Some good moments, but I’d sooner JMD to be honest. Kemp Not an upgrade. Difference is Kemp getting plenty of game time.

Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
JMD was on the bench yesterday for their loss against Barrow. Can only assume he was rested because of the heavy schedule since he has apparently been playing well.
On that note, pretty pleased Barrow won. Point a game from here should keep them safe

Said all along that he’s the best crosser of a ball in the club. Played in the right formation and given a decent run of games, which he never was and managed correctly.Do believe he got another assist yesterday.

JMD a skillful player, no doubt of that. Given the right club, encouraged and as you say ''managed correctly'' every chance he will come good, I wish him well.Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 21, 2021 11:30 am Said all along that he’s the best crosser of a ball in the club. Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
His set pieces weren't up to much and we have others who can take them. Other than that, from open play who are we crossing to with one up front and others for whom jumping/heading is not a strength?Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 21, 2021 11:30 am Said all along that he’s the best crosser of a ball in the club. Still think we should have tried him playing just behind a target man where he could use his skill but his lack of defensive cover and relatively lower work rate would not be exposed.

Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
I did say in the right formation . I think there was a player in there,as Sid has said. It was down to the coach to bring it out of him,Embleton wasn’t that coach .It’s just funny how well he’s doing at Crawley. The team is crying out for creativity and I thought he had more than some in the team. Josh Wright said as much in a podcast

Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
Are there any other clubs where the needs of the academy drive the tactics used for the first team? As much as we keep being told our CM isn't up to the needs of 4-4-2 Ling / Travis saying we play the same system throughout the club seems to be more of an explanation for the unwillingness to deviate.
Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
I thought he went out on loan? I would put DJ on the bench Wilkinson in the center and jmd on the right.

Re: JMD stars for winning Crawley side playing 442
I long for the excitement of an old fashioned 4-4-2. One winger bombing up and down the line. Another winger cutting inside with their tricky feet, supported by a marauding fullback hitting the byline. Two complimentary forwards working in tandum, one coming short, the other nipping into the gaps. One central midfielder charging about breaking up play whilst the other one gets up in support. Two big brutes in centre defence and a keeper with a kick out of his hands like a cannon.
I'm moist.
