Yep,
The NHS will be reformed.
I can see the Tories charging for a Doctors appointment.

Re: Disgusting Pay offer to NHS
Whatever they get, 20% tax and 12.8% NI goes straight back to the govt. And possibly 4% for pension (I don't know how NHS pensions are funded).
I would support a bigger rise but I would also support paying for car parks to help fund it.
The NHS was formed in 1948 for a society with men dying at 66 and women 71 and without the expensive technology to keep people alive. It really needs to be revamped for the modern world. Would people pay to see your GP if it meant nurses got paid more?

Re: Disgusting Pay offer to NHS
Whether or not the NHS could do with revamping is not the issue being discussed here.
The issue is that NHS staff, whether front-line or not (back-room staff will likely mingle with front-line staff anyway) have been going/are going above and beyond the call of duty during this pandemic. They have put their, and their families, lives at risk in order to perform their duties. Too often this has been done without the necessary PPE. To now offer them a 1% increase is degrading and disrespectful. It's not as if they are already well paid is it.
The government deserves to be loudly criticised by any means possible with the hope, and expectation, that a U-Turn on this proposal will be forthcoming. Only by shaming will this government consider doing the right thing.

Re: Disgusting Pay offer to NHS
The Tories hate the NHS
The Tories have always hated the NHS
If the Tories had had their way there would never have been an NHS
They can't abolish it outright so are doing it by the back door.
Anyone who votes for them is agreeing with their policy (even those too stupid to see it)
All clear now?

Re: Disgusting Pay offer to NHS
They are not the only ones who have risked their lives as you say. It needed more than just the NHS to keep the country running .BoniO wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 5:04 pm Whether or not the NHS could do with revamping is not the issue being discussed here.

Re: Disgusting Pay offer to NHS
OK, so who was running the same constant risks as NHS staff?
I appreciate that carers in homes might fall into this category but who are you referring to? And, anyway, just because there may be others who put their lives at risk, this in no way diminishes the work done/risks taken by NHS staff.

Re: Disgusting Pay offer to NHS
Didn’t say it diminishes their efforts. But we should still praise others that had to work through this who will be lucky to have a job afterwards. Electricity , gas and water kept going , London transport , supermarket workers , mechanics , construction, council workers. The list goes on.BoniO wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 5:57 pm OK, so who was running the same constant risks as NHS staff?

Re: Disgusting Pay offer to NHS
So all these workers were under the same level of threat as the NHS workers, non-stop, for their whole shift. Really. I'm not diminishing the efforts of these other workers but they're not in the same boat as the NHS staff.George wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 6:25 pmDidn’t say it diminishes their efforts. Re: Disgusting Pay offer to NHS
Normally, you'd hope that they'd know when to pull the plug on this White Elephant but I suppose the gravy chain needs to continue. Boris's chums probably have expensive tastes. I wonder how many years this amount of money could have funded a reasonable pay rise for NHS workers.

Re: Disgusting Pay offer to NHS
I’m sorry but working non stop through a shift is what we should all do. They are paid well , they do a great job , but I would prefer another way of rewarding them rather than the stupid figures people are banding about.
A nurse called in to Radio 5 today and spoke sensibly about it. She would prefer free training , free parking for example. She wasn’t complaining about her Salary or the rise.
Unions will always complain and threaten. It’s just bartering

Not even funny comical Tuffers as there is probably some lunatic out there that would consider it. Withdraw the comment as it’s dangerous.
