As a warning, my brother Dave, a lifelong O’s fan, and now 63, tested positive yesterday. He felt fine and had a bit of a coughing fit, and his wife gave him a self-test kit, just in case. It came back positive, so they both went for a proper test and had it confirmed. His wife tested negative.
He’s no idea how he contracted it - he’s retired, has played it very safe by staying home, wearing a mask every time he leaves the house and has only been for walks and to the shops now and then. Luckily he’s pretty fit and says he feels fine, but he’s got a nervy couple of weeks ahead, as have I worrying about him. It just goes to show how virulent this bugger is (the virus, not my brother).

We appear to be inching towards a mandatory hotel quarantine for all international arrivals. I get why the government are considering this, but quite how they're going to manage the 8,000 Heathrow daily arrivals with just 10,000 local hotel beds will be interesting.

I guess that they're probably hoping that the mandatory quarantine will put off some of those who are still travelling. However, I doubt that anyone is travelling right now for luxury reasons.

Also, this could make the Irish/Northern Irish boarder interesting.

The answer would appear to be that we'll only impose this on travellers from certain countries identified as high risk.

The silence is deafening.

Typically despicable. The EU is a bloated, unwieldy, useless totalitarian blob whose primary purpose is to satisfy the Prussians' insatiable requirement to dominate inferior European states whilst the French and sundry francophones hang on their coattails and provide the bureaucracy (in English!).

The EU cannot organise anything other than vanity projects. Blundering around throwing its weight, threatening to jump the queue and withhold medical supplies, and suing companies who are providing vaccines to save lives at cost price. No wonder the silence is deafening.

I cant believe they dragged out negotiations for 3 months, to try and get an already cheap vaccine, cheaper. The people of Europe dont deserve it, but neither do we. Funny how they love trade rules, then want to rip them up at the first sign of trouble.

But I agree with the principle of it.

In any walk of life, it's rare, but refreshing when you come across someone who is not only willing to act a good game as well as talk a good game, but who is also willing to put the hard graft in to get there.

There's numerous reasons why this government has failed so dramatically, £ notes being one of them, but I truly believe that laziness is one of them. He simply did not care enough to put the hard work in required to think ahead, to think outside the box, to take on personal responsibility that actually meant something...or you know, turn up to a Cobra meeting or two.

Will be a while yet before we see any real progress in hospitals.

Whilst I agree this is a better way to look at it, are we testing the same amount of people each day? Are the number of tests going up, down or the same?

Several bits of info.

Last years deaths showed a reduction in the number of people dying from the 5 most common deaths. These include cancer, cardiac arrest, dementia etc.

Also the number of emergency breast mammograms dropped by 32%.

The number of people admitted to hospital each day has reduced from 1300 a day to under a 1000 a day as at yesterday. With 1750 being discharged on average daily. 25% of hospital cases are contracted in hospital after 8 days.
