The Embleton question
Well, after 24 games and 36 points , it seems that us O's supporters (who are looking for the same goal ) are split into two camps. Its either pro Ross or anti Ross with nothing in the middle. Well , if we all take a breath and and analyse this, I reckon all of this debate is because we possibly have different ambitions .
It seems to me that pro Ross supporters believe he has done a decent job in the most difficult of circumstances and after everything that has gone on, are very content to sit in 9th for now knowing that league two football is assured. Ross cares deeply about the club and that's commendable.
However it seems to me that anti Ross supporters believe we have a squad (with our budget) that are well worthy of the playoffs if CORRECT players were played in CORRECT positions. It seems to me, after looking at all various social media channels, that those in this group nearly all have the same opinion :
GK Vigouroux - Great goalkeeper - too good for this level . Probably the best keeper in the league. They would say pleased with this one !
RB Ling. This group may say that although limited, he does have certain limited attributes BUT as a right back the most important thing to have is positional sense. Their comments are that sadly, he is lacking in this area and he costs too many points. Where's the marking they may say every third or fourth game when we play better opposition ? This group would say that Turley could do a perfectly good job there as Cuthbert did..
CH Akinola - showing his class but again this group would say why wasn't he put there in the first place when hes come over from west Ham as a centre half. That's why they loaned us him .. to play him there ! They would say they are pleased with Ross's final decision with this one.
CH Happe - This group is happy with this although he still has a lot to learn.. (Forest Green). Pleased with this one and work in progress they would say.
LB Brophy - Where would they start??! Lacking penetration against Morecombe and Forest Green , the overwhelming opinion is why are we playing our most inventive player who has the ability to dribble and unsettle teams, at left back. ? They say that hes wasted at left back This group would say budgets permitting , get a new left back in and if not, keep with Widdowson. He will do a job and if nothing else, to get Brophy more forward.
CM Jobi - no complaints as still quality at this level but needs someone capable of standing in for him .
CM Cisse - sideways, not exactly a n energetic Vincelot - give Kyprianou a go they would say
CM Clay - good National league player who can run around and have a good game against lesser opponents. Not so great against good league two opposition. This group would possibly say bin this position. lets go 442 and attack teams as this league is not up to much. as we have better attacking players Edinburgh and Slade did ... it seemed to work for them..
LW - Soitrou - Comments are what is he doing there ? Can only play one position and that's central as he shoots on sight and is hungry for goals. Playing on the wing is destroying his confidence. Brophy maybe ?
CF DJ - nailed on but anti Ross brigade would say why was he stuck out on the right wing at the start of his Orient career ? What is the obsession of playing centre forwards on thew wing they would say.
RW Wilkinson - general opinion in this group . Ok with this but can go hot and cold.
CF (now because its 442) Play Soitrou in his natural position as its clear hes not happy at left wing.. where Brophy should be.
Again, there are some that are saying Ross is doing a good job BUT there are some saying that with the budget given, the talent of the squad, the tactics possibly being more adventurous, playing best players in correct positions. we maybe heading back to league one where we were ...
Well, i'm in the middle ...!
Up the O's !!

Re: The Embleton question
A long, and reasonable, analysis. Then a sit on the fence opinion.
I think there are people, like me, who are desperate for Ross to be successful. I want Orient to be successful and to be honest don’t care who the manager is. I’m Happy with our league position, hacked off by far too many poor performances.
With our squad performances should be better. Absolutely no cutting edge against Morecambe and FGR. FGR made us look like mugs. After 24 games we should be better, we ain’t. That’s the truth despite how Ross tries to gloss over the cracks.
But it’s a results business and we are 9th. But goodness me, watching Orient is tedious and frustrating.
There are two reasons separating us from the bottom pack. Vigeroux and Johnson.

Re: The Embleton question
Your opening proposition is false.
I’m not really anti or pro. I think that he’s doing an alright job in the current circumstances and can’t really think of anyone else who is available that would do a better job.
We’re a mid table club, with a mid table squad and are almost certainly going to finish the season in mid table.
For now, he’s fine. Is he a long term solution who is going to take this club to the dizzying heights of league one? Probably not.
Not everything in life has to be a partisan dichotomy.

Re: The Embleton question
@Four four two.
Too busy at the moment to get too involved on this forum but for just a couple of points to add.
You wrote 'LW - Soitrou - Comments are what is he doing there ? Can only play one position and that's central as he shoots on sight and is hungry for goals. Playing on the wing is destroying his confidence. Brophy maybe''
Well Soitrou has also put in some good performances when playing on the right wing, so central striker or if not, then right wing seems to suit him best, so why does Ross persist in playing him on the left wing where he is a square peg in a round hole ?
Also a no brainer for me,. play Brophy where he does his best work which is left wing.
Basically Ross may be a good coach and a nice guy, but IMO, he just does not have the various qualities required to be a good football manager.

Re: The Embleton question
IDK, I think your central proposition is false. We're not a mid-table club - our history, our support, the ambition, experience and skill of our owners, and the way the non-football management side of the club is run all point to us being third tier.Huxley wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 9:44 pm Your opening proposition is false.

Finishing just outside the playoffs this year won't do enough to convince the Lingleton-sceptics, nor will it invite the owners to conclude that changes are required. New day, same arguments, probably.

Re: The Embleton question
The whole premise of your post is wrong. Split opinions are nothing to do with having different ambitions. The split is between those who think ambitions can be fulfilled by waving a magic wand and those of us who live in the real world and appreciate the difficulties in achieving those ambitions.Four four two wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 9:09 pm Well, after 24 games and 36 points , it seems that us O's supporters (who are looking for the same goal ) are split into two camps.

I think RE has done OK in some respects but I'm just not convinced . I don't understand the continued use of a formation that doesn't make the best of what we have. I think the core of our side is pretty decent although that will be put to the test with DJ out. I just think we should put round pegs in round holes, so I'm concerend with the dogma of playing people out of position. Maybe RE will develop into a fine manager, I hope so because he clearly tries his best. I'm concerned about the number of alteracations he gets into with other managers (it comes across as weakness and lack of confidence) and I'm concerned by the fact that he appears stubborn and unable to learn sometimes. That having been said I try to cut him some slack. I think the club should re-evaluate at the end of the season.
