What Corbyn thinks is probably irrelevant now no?
People on here are now calling out the government for not shutting down the borders back in March 2020, but I cannot recall any prominent politicians back then calling out for any such measures to be undertaken.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

We were calling out the government back in March. No hindsight needed.

We got two weeks notice and we are an island.
It doesn’t take brain of Britain to look at the scenes in Italy and Spain at the time and think, that’s gonna be us if we don’t do anything.
Pathetic from the people who are meant to protect us and their apologists.

No brainer. The only countries that have been successful in dealing with covid did this (plus a couple of other things).
Have those countries you refer to got vaccines? One from their own nation?

Look at the furore at wearing masks? Imagine the reaction to such sudden drastic measures and isolating relatives coming back from holidays? Thank God that the majority of the country support our Government.

Yeah don’t just don’t bother if people don’t like it. Kill a few thousand if it means Barbara can get back from Spain without a faff. And it’s been proven to have been a great policy, so you’re spot on as per.
Mistadobalina alludes to the need at the start of March, here. Whilst also pointing out why we didn’t - money which always trumps lives in this government

Well if the tories have got anything to do with it , will be a DISASTER, like everything they touch.
You Tory apologists have got the hardest gig in the land, fair play for giving it a go tho.....
Yes like the rich hypocritical Champagne Socialist
Party, but they are not in power as Milliband further destroyed it letting that fool Corbyn in. Workers go towards destroying their rights through the Unions , run by generally those who have too many luncheons on pay more than the PM , who Con the workforce who pay their subs .
If it wasn’t for Unions you would have no H&S and no paid holidays.
But carry on dreaming.
From memory. Some ethical owners of businesses paid for hols and health and looked after the workers over 200 years ago.
It was because some owners did not look after there staff that workers started to get together.
Unfortunately, my experience of unions in representation has been at best poor, sadly. I feel a system similar to Germanys would be much better, with no big bosses with political agenda's only thinking about workers.
Totally agree.
The Unions without doubt abused their power in the 70 s.
I was in One of the Print Unions so I can see how one or two power mad idiots can cause a business unnecessary problems.
The problem is British management is appalling, and a lot of business owners are now using cheap labour to drive down conditions.
Germany work less hours and are more productive.
It seems the workforce and the owners are on the same side.
I work for myself, no work, no pay. I am head of my own Union.
You mean NHS? As the Tories have been in power for most of the years since the war, isn’t it great that they have kept it performing as it has?
Despite all the Corbyn lies about selling it to the USA , they have had record investment under the Conservatives.
No, Health & Safety.
The Tories have not bought in one law in favour of the workforce.
Unless you can name one?
It is all over the top H&S in my view, EU overkill to benefit France and Germany . Killing the building industry whilst certain building teams get away with the most basic preventive measures. Look at the average house being refurbed in your neighbourhood these days, no hard hats, safety clothing , guard rails on scaffolding and so on.

Guard rails on Scaffold ?
Oh please , laughable
Really? This incident was in Wanstead few years ago, I knew people concerned. What is ‘laughable’ about such matters?

They haven't rushed into rolling them out, as they haven't needed to. Australia was making its own vaccine, but canned a similarly successful one to the oxford one when it showed false positives for HIV tests. The Oxford one will be manufactured onshore, but we don't have the capability to manufacture the mRNA ones yet.

Closing borders is about the oldest pandemic management strategy there is. You have thousands of years of precedent for it. If it wasn't a strategy that was 'oven ready' to use Johnson's favourite phrase, then you have to ask serious questions about the pandemic planning that the government of the last ten years had done.
Even if you are being forgiving about the initial f*ck up, it's completely indefensible that it has taken nearly 12 months into the pandemic to implement it. How bad do things need to get before you hold them accountable for how badly they've botched this? It's driving me a little mad to see us with one of the worst death rates, recessions and public spending performances of any country in the world, and still have people defending this government as if they were a bunch of graduates learning on the job.
Hi everyone! A lifelong O's supporter here living in Australia. My family have supported the Orient since about 1910, ( Clapton Orient days.) Felt I should make a contribution to this thread. For anyone who is interested, please go to www.worldometers.info/coronaviurus. Click on "Yesterday" as the figures for "Today" are only just starting to come in. The figures speak for themselves. The situation in the U.K. is farcical. I don't expect any country with a highly educated population to allow its government to get away with such gross incompetence. The same applies to the U.S.A. and look what has just happened there in recent months, (Trump out / Biden in.) Granted they have a lot more problems than the U.K. So glad my parents made the decision to move to this side of the world back in 1961, ( poor Eastenders / assisted immigrants.) Still have many family and friends in the U.K. that I am concerned for. Best wishes to everyone in the U.K. at this difficult time.
