Re: DANNY JOHNSON
Last January, Danny was given an 18 month contract, so now he can leave at the end of the season on a free. I bet Ling now wishes he'd given him a 2½ yr contract.
Was noticeable, the club gave Kemp, a 2½ yr contract, when he signed last week.
Seems they learned something

Maybe Johnson insisted on an 18 month deal as a condition of signing.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 12:55 pm Last January, Danny was given an 18 month contract, so now he can leave at the end of the season on a free. I bet Ling now wishes he'd given him a 2½ yr contract.

Re: DANNY JOHNSON
Yep. In January 2019 Jordan Maguire-Drew signed on a 2.5 year contract too. So its not a case of anyone learning, just settling on a contract term in negotiations that all parties find acceptable. Hardly rocket science, but no surpise that he couldn't understand.Dohnut (ALM) wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 2:23 pmMaybe Johnson insisted on an 18 month deal as a condition of signing.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 12:55 pm Last January, Danny was given an 18 month contract, so now he can leave at the end of the season on a free. Also notice the use of language in that post confirming previous biases - signing of Kemp (perceived as good) = the club "gave" him the 2.5 year contract. Johnson signed on a 1.5 year contract (perceived as bad) = Ling "gave" him that deal.

Those first few games back in early 2020, everyone else thought 18 months was about 17 months too long.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 12:55 pm Last January, Danny was given an 18 month contract, so now he can leave at the end of the season on a free. Doubt it. Most players would want more security than that to up sticks.Dohnut (ALM) wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 2:23 pmMaybe Johnson insisted on an 18 month deal as a condition of signing.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 12:55 pm Last January, Danny was given an 18 month contract, so now he can leave at the end of the season on a free. 18 months would have been at our insistence and rightly so at the time. He needed to prove himself worthy of a longer contract. It's just unfortunate that we missed 6 months, so when he started proving himself, we were into the final year.
I still don't think there should be an issue with getting him to stay, although he may well be demanding more money than he's currently on.

18 months means he was out of Scotland in a better shop windowRonnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 10:51 amDoubt it. Has to be good for him if he believes in his own abilities .
Which he obviously does

Re: DANNY JOHNSON
He wasn't even in the shop window. He couldn't get a game at Motherwell. The fact that he is prolific in Div4 just shows how low the standard is.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 11:46 amWhat?tuffers#1 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 11:12 am18 months means he was out of Scotland in a better shop windowRonnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 10:51 am

Re: DANNY JOHNSON
It's not just his goal scoring record that's been impressive. He needs very few chances to get on the score sheet, he's clinical in front of goal. He works the opposing defenders hard and must be a nightmare to play against.I dread to think were we'd be in the league if he hadn't been playing. If we lose him for nothing that will be very disappointing. Things being shut down due to Covid probably haven't helped. I would imagine that the club have been trying to get hin to sign an extension for some time andhe clearly hasn't signed so I'd imagine he'll be off. It must be difficult for clubs as they've very little idea when they'll be earning proper revenues again. Does anyone on here blame our DOF ?

I blame our DOF for signing him knowing full well he would be the success he has and then move on possibly.been better if Johnson had been a failure.

Re: DANNY JOHNSON
Surely there must be a way a framing a contract to make it attractive to him - after all we’ll be in Div 1 next season with a bigger salary cap.

Re: DANNY JOHNSON
How does the salary cap work. Is it calculated monthly, quarterly or what. I would be looking to resign him at eg current salary plus a bit but with the contract stating eg that it would double in June then in June reduce the squad size elsewhere to allow the increase. An alternative is an ultra long contract to give him security.
