If you look at the NHS data they are not under pressure from a beds perspective. In fact right now is lower than the same time last year. However, the MSM will spin it like it’s on it’s knees, in fact look back past last year and you’ll see it was under more pressure than it is now.

Beds is not the problem, its staff.
One COVID patient can take up to 6 staff alone.
How many staff are off work now compared to last year might be more sensible.
I thinks it’s best to realise now that this is not some conspiracy thought up by every nation on earth.

I agree with you and it’s what I posted the other day. Staff are dropping like flies, but the hospitals have enough space to be able to deal with the patients requiring treatment, if they ha e the staff of course. It’s not a bed problem, more a human one. Give the staff the proper equipment to do their jobs to minimise catching covid as much as possible.

I feel for the staff trying to cope. Beds are one thing, having enough staff is another.

I keep hearing of 70 And 80 year olds getting the Covid vaccination but my 92 year old mum hasn't been offered one yet my local health centre where we and hundreds of others are registered with our doctors tells me they are not doing Vaccines , I'm wondering how mum ( and anybody else registered there will get one )

That sounds terrible Ron. What do they mean "they're not doing vaccines" ? Do they mean they're not doing at that actual centre but elsewhere instead? - My M&D are in Dunmow, and their surgery is sending them to a place near Stansted for their jags - they had the first before Christmas (they're 81 and 91) and are due to the get the 2nd shot tomorrow - although I'd imagine that'll be postponed now that they are planning to spread out the shots more widely more quickly.

I'm sure you're already on it, but I'd be going back to the health centre asking what they mean - "not doing vaccines" - cos that just sounds plain wrong.

Not very many health centres will have the vaccine at the moment, they are are being done in hospitals and what they term as Vaccination hubs. I would ask to speak to you mums GP Ron and find out where she will be vaccinated - they should be able to tell you that if not when. There should be 1000 Vaccination centre by mid January if they can get enough Vaccine.

The new strain is clearly spreading amongst school age children and from them to other family members. That is the bit that everyone is worried about.

Also, I've gone back to work today and am speaking to a number of colleagues from around the country in Tier 3 and 4 areas (mainly in the North West). We have staff dropping like flies with Covid symptoms. I directly look after a team of 52, and already 8 (15%) of them have had a positive test since Christmas and are now off sick.

The 'schools are safe, kids won't be affected guys!' posts are being very widely shared on Facebook and Twitter, usually with screenshots of a bunch of graphs and promoted by the Hartley-Brewer's of the world. It is definitely disingenuous but it is buying them a little time with their core.

Tier system isn't going to work - we need a full lockdown. Even then it will b at least another 2 to 3 weeks of hell before cases start to drop. It doesn't make any sense to have a full lockdown in late winter 2019 to protect the NHS - then let them become overrun going into Christmas with the worst period for respitory issues Jan/March still to come.

Are we talking about spreading it to parents? Older relatives shouldnt be anywhere near kids if they can help it.

Anyone got the data on which age groups are testing positive or shall I Google it myself?

Hi Ron. The are about 4 million doses currently being delivered. 40 million are then due to arrive from the end of March. Whether or not your Mum gets one of the first tranche of 4 million is likely to depend on how many are ahead of her in the queue. My Mum has also been declared as CEV, but her GP has told her to not get her hopes up of being one of the 4 million.

I think we need to realistically set our expectations that the vaccination programme will not get into full swing until April. And then there will almost certainly be some obstacles and logistical barriers. Hence why my earlier prediction of Spring 2022 being a realistic target for a return to 'normal'.
