Former Orient striker retires

Post by Bergen »

Gary Taylor-Fletcher (38).

Played more than 575 times in the top five divisions of English football, scoring 120 goals (only 1 goal for Orient).

Tommy Taylor paid £ 50 000 for him 2001 after he had scored two goals against us in the FA-cup for Northwich V. Made quite a good career for himself after he left us in 2003.

Not many ex Orient players are still playing 16 years after leaving Orient.

A long career

Has Cureton called it a day yet? Apart from a crap injury-hit spell with us his career has been remarkable.

What surprises me if Bergans stats are correct and I've no reason to doubt them, but I'd have thought his goal ratio would have been better than that.

Saw him bang one in to the old onion bag for us a few years ago at Carlisle. I may have mentioned this before. Maybe even more than once. Not sure.

He certainly wasn't unusual in that he was rubbish for us but good when he went elsewhere. That's why it was so nice this year that Bonne was pretty rubbish elsewhere (well Colchester) but has done well for us. I prefer it this way round.

That's one reason that I think good signings have more to do with luck than ability.

I hadn't realised he was still playing, good player who made most of his talent. Married Taylor's daughter.

He was player manager at Bangor City until recently. Only old head in a team of kids. Bangor City another team in serious financial trouble . They've been forcibly relegated for the second season running.

I believe the vile Vaughans (of previous Chester & Barrow collapse infamy) have had a finger in the Bangor pie of late, so no surprise to see them going tits up & running into trouble with the League authorities.

Not always, a good manager can coax the best out of a player, and sometimes it could just be down to playing style. In the case of Bonne I'd put it at the feet of the manager and coaching team plus of course the players own massive desire to prove people wrong
