Vigouroux. 6.5. No real saves to make.
Ling. 6 (just) Tidy in possession but we know that. We also know he offers nothing going forward and is positionally awful. Most of Salford’s chances down our right hand side.
Akinola. 8. Mom. Excellent game. Good passing and his speed across the ground chalk and cheese with coulson.
Happe. 7. Solid alongside Akinola.
Brophy. 7.5. Showed again why he is better at left back IMO. More space when he wants to go forward and his speed is really useful in defensive situations.
Angol. 5.5. Need better. I thought he was poor.
Macanuff. 7. 3 games in a week and still outrunning the rest in injury time.
Clay. 6.5. Lovely touch for our goal. Huffed and puffed otherwise. Yes he runs about everywhere but gives the ball away far too much. I appreciate that others see more in him than I do including the commentator who thought he was superb.
Cisse. 7.5. Much better this week. Strong as an ox.
Wilkinson. 7. A 9 first half and barely touched it second half. He should take a lesson from premier league players in that it’s never good enough. He could be a real player but I feel he always settles on just being a little better than ok rather than ripping the league up. Has all the tools to be play at a much higher level.
Johnson. 7. Great goal but, and without being harsh,mid/ lower league one, league two is probably his level as he is really really slow. Missed 2-3 other chances.

Subs. 6.
Salford. 5. Barely worked our goalie. Disappointing.
Ref. 8. Though the ref was excellent.
Embleton. 7. Still Tom willy. Credit where it’s due. 2 wins in a few days.

First game I've watched for a while, had the commentary off (find it tiresome, not Dave, the other bloke). The game was dire, loads of bad decisions from us and got lucky a few times. Salford didn't get out of 2nd gear and deserve a rollicking from their boss, but will finish well above us this season.

Angol is so annoying. Stupid fouls. Stupid booking. Very little end product. He always looks like he could do so much better than he does. And people always want to dig out Ling for marginal errors! Still, I loved the way we sucked the life out of the game in the last 15 and just forced Salford into accepting they were going to lose. Strong team effort.

Vigouroux - 7 - one absolutely vital stop, that's what good keepers do
Ling - 5 - responsible for 3 clear cut chances for Salford, still an absolute liability
Akinola - 8 - MOTM - the Ekpiteta replacement we've needed, amazing what happens playing the CB at CB
Happe - 7 - vital block and otherwise solid
Brophy - 7 - solid game
Angol - 6 - generous rating for his workrate, end product not up to much but kept going
McAnuff - 7 - what else can you say about his fitness levels, incredible
Clay - 7 - usual hard working performance
Cisse - 7 - like the Cissé of last season, put it about today
Wilkinson - 7 - a slightly generous rating but tricky
Johnson - 7 - goal out of nothing, great finishing

Subs
Sotiriou - 5 - a few naive touches when he could've ran the clock down towards the end

Salford's set pieces were fortunately for us awful and miss of the season in the first half. Thought their NL side was more dangerous strangely.

Sorry - Angol 5.5??? I think .5 would be generous. Terrible control; 4 touches where 1 would do; can't pass to a red shirt and giving away stupid, unnecessary fouls I couldn't see one positive contribution from him all match. Please, someone tell me what he offers over and above the subs that he's keeping out of the team because I'll be b****ed if I know

Ling 5. Was I watching the same game? Got to be some serious bias going on there. We know he is limited but I thought he was OK. Akinola, considering his lack of match practice, is a top player. A case for MOTM but so has Clay and Brophy.

This. He was on the pitch for 97 minutes FFS and was a complete liability. Just after the break he even repeated Tuesday's excellent through ball to an opposition player putting them in. No work rate, no skill, no positional awareness, he will start on Saturday.

Good games from Vigaro, Happe, Akinola, Brophy and Clay, all 7s

Ok games from Cisse, Jobi, Wilko and DJ, all 6s

As bad as Ling was, again, Angol was worse. Decision making is shocking. Pick a number between 1 and 5 for both of them.

You thought that was dire? Definitely disagree, you ain’t watched us much this season. Personally I thought both teams put in good performances, with tactical changes going on by Salford to get a draw and us adapting well to their changes.

You dont understand my reasoning at all.

A 10 is perfect.for Sam Ling .

He NEARLY always lets a goal get scored
He NEARLY.always costs us points
Except for when he actually
costs us goals or points

So When he NEARLY has a good game
He NEARLY deserves a strong 10

All of Salford's big chances came from him.

- miss of the season unchallenged cross
- Happe block after he got skinned by the winger and allowed cross in
- Vigoroux save from him letting striker through

Usually at least one of those three would end in a goal against so yeah lucky to get a 5 on the basis of that.

Akinola I think deserves it for the difference he makes to the CB pairing. Adds that extra bit of physicality and pace that was lacking.

Harsh to attribute these three all to one player. But if that’s how you see it.

Ling was better than a 5! Be interested to watch the highlights back but I’m certain on at least one occasion Henderson goes through on goal and he has run off the shoulder of Cisse. That seems to be a trend from Cisse

Maybe a bit harsh on Ling 🤔🤔
Angol was toilet and should be dropped but alas we will no doubt be unchanged again next week .

Thought the team worked hard, not a polished performance, got lucky a couple of times, but did enough to get all the points.

Clay . 8 MOTM
Akinola 8
McAnuff 7+
Brophy 7+
Wilko 7
DJ 7
LV 7
Cisse 7
Happe 6+

Great result today but agreed, Angol was absolutely dire and has been since returning.

We beat a better team having an off day. The midfield did their job well enough but were clearly not as talented as Salford's. Johnson is the difference between us and lower mid-table at the moment, another quality goal and consistently able to fashion chances out of almost nothing. Defence deserves credit today for standing up well to pressure, even if Salford missed an absolute sitter.

Angol was awful but he's not a winger and its baffling that Embleton continues to play him out there when we have other much better options on the bench. Something has obviously happened with JMD, which is a shame as he is a real talent.

With a high quality right back and central midfielder added in January, I think we could have a real tilt at the play-offs, but the constraints we're operating under surely make that unlikely.

Guess it depends if we can shift anyone out. Judd won't be earning much, but if we can move a Wright or Dayton type out that will definitely help.

Could probably do with getting rid of one of Angol or Dennis as well if possible. Both can be decent players but clearly don't fit in with how we play.

You'd have to think, sadly, JMD is the more likely to go out of himself, Angol or Dennis.

I imagine Wright is definitely gone, but I can see just 2 in and 2 out. With maybe a youngster last minute for the third.
