55,892 Positive tests today another new high - Another 964 deaths.- Yesterday 50,023 Positives from 420,492 tests rate of 11.90%.

In Essex some Covid patients are being moved out of the area because of lack of beds. The armed forces have been drafted in to help in hospitals because so many staff members now have Covid. All this and we havent reached the two worst months for respitory desease (Jan/Feb) - I think the first batches of the Oxford Vaccine should really go to healthcare workers - If we don't keep them as safe as we can then the whole system will grind to a halt.

In the meantime at the very least Keep schools and Uni's closed until at February or have a complete lock down until end of February and safe gaurd the most vulnerable until phase 1 of the Vaccine programme is complete otherwise the numbers are going to be scary.

The Army have staff on standby to administer 100,000 doses of vaccine a day on top of the NHS staff being made available for vaccine duties.

According to the government, the regulatory body and the vaccine maker themselves the intention is to give the 2 doses 12 weeks apart.

I can see why they have pressed the regulatory body to approve their plan as it will allow more people to get 1 shot than a smaller number have both.

The question remains will it work? Pfizer says their vaccine does not work like that, Oxford have not said anything yet, but previously they did say they found that the first shot was 60% effective however when the 2nd dose is added 2 weeks later it raised it to 90% which they then moved up to 95% on what basis who knows.

This was addressed by the UK regulator at the press conference yesterday. The Oxford Vaccine gives 60 -70% protection between 14 and 21 days after the first dose and 91% after two doses if given three weeks later. The trials included two doses given at various intervals in excess of two weeks and it was found to be effective in boosting immunity up to 12 weeks but they never gave an indication of how the performance varied, due to be released in a "paper" this week by all accounts.

Really Tuffers the one thing the government has done is put its money where it’s mouth is. We may question some of the spending especially among their mates, but the money was found and I’m sure it will be found once more especially as the magic tree is proper flowering at the moment.

Anyway as a percentage of any metric you want our debt is low compared to post war years for example.

I’m in a WhatsApp group for football coaches and one of the coaches said his mum is a nurse in a hospital and they all got injected with the vaccine prior to xmas. Anyway two of her friends now have covid, the number of days was 8 after injection so maybe the vaccine hadn’t enough time to work?
