Anyone who doesn't understand the way Travis is leading our club should read his book The Culture Challenge. I have just finished it and I found it interesting. Its mostly about Dunkin' and business in general but Chapter 9 is about Leyton Orient.

Didn't the Newport manager recently say something regarding the fans?

Here we go.

We have possibly (time will tell) the best owners this club has ever had. They inherited an absolute basket case of a company, a company that has existed since 1906, how many businesses still exist older than ours? We have a massive history, in the area and surrounding locations.

They have had to sort out all the debts, sort out the vat issues which resulted in a new vat number being issued, a new bank account, a ticketing system not fit for purpose, a commercial side dead in the water, a ground falling apart, a pitch in a worse condition than hackney marshes. All senior pros left, all senior staff left, no one in the backfroom apart from real heroes like Lindsay and Ada and maybe one or two others. A club which had faced its high noon in the high court, a place where it don’t get much more serious than there.

They have put in place everything to enable the football team to be successful both in the mid to long term. Quality back room people were brought in Danny MAC for sample, a DOF who despite being pilloried on here played at the highest level, played for our club, managed our club and brought it success before, it was a wise move.

Finally we arrive at Justin who is quite literally possibly the best appointment of a manger since Bloomfield. He got us promoted as champions within 18 months of joining us, things were looking upwards, we had owners who cared, a manger who cared and players who bought into his ideals and philosophy. Then he was taken from his family all too soon.

Since then we’ve kind of been treading water, trying to find our feet, but whilst we do that we have looked to find stability and in Ross the club has what it was looking for to tide us through until suchntimes as the dark clouds which descended on our club finally depart. Do I think Ross is the right person for the role? No and I’ve said that previously, but he is our manager and we should back him.

The owners have laid the ground work, the operational side is ready, the coaching structure was implemented to support the growth of the football side and I truly hope it reaps the reward that they are looking for. Will we get that at the current time? I don’t think so, but it’s hardly the owners fault why that is. They have put in place everything to be a success, they are putting in their hard earned corn and I for one salute what they are trying to achieve for our club.

Maybe this appointment won’t brimg us the promotion that us fans want and crave, it may not deliver the targets the owners want or require, but today it is probably still doing what they want it to be. Tomorrow the sun will shine and when it does we will be ready as fans to celebrate together and with our owners. Cos mark my words this club will be in league one within the next two years of that there is no doubt in my mind.

Nigel and Kent and all the other investors, keep the faith, keep believing cos more of us believe in you than don’t who are a very small minority.

You make good points that I agree with but they’re not above criticism just because they saved the club. The fans were here before them and they’ll be here after they go, if they have issues then it’s only right they should air them. Nigel and Kent would welcome those opinions. It often boils over into unfair criticism though.

That post could've been lifted straight out of 2017-era Davis times. Funny enough T&T went out and hired someone with a proven track record for the level we were at and he... oh yeah kept things simple, in a formation the players understood and... won a title.

Go on Orient prove me wrong and kick seven bells out of Southend on Tuesday night, if they can't get motivated for that game then there's something amiss.
PoliticOs wrote: Mon Dec 28, 2020 12:35 pm Oh, you're bloody going to set gshaw off on that now Bera!

You're wrong, too. You're just using recency bias to think we're alone in this. You make it sound like we've always had shrinking violets running the show, and that just isn't true.
You called?

The only time I remember hearing opposition saying what a dirty side we were was in the NL title season. Loved it.

Closest other comparison I can think of was the Hicks / Smith / Clark defence that had the league record for yellow and red cards if I remember rightly?
Even JE got found out towards the end of that season. We limped over the line with a 0-0 draw if you remember.
The failure by Ling to get the Adams signing sorted followed by Gorman, Alabi and not getting a CM in January made it a lot harder for sure. That just highlights what a good manager JE was to manage to get us over the line in a completely un-Orient-esque way.

Who cares how you win, as long as you win that's what matters... or seemingly not these days as developing the careers of Embleton & co seems to be the main priority.

Hurlock went to our school.
He was a hard b————d then.
Hurlock was a puS-sY ,
I was in his pub the night he got done over by a couple of local brothers
Who knocked seven bells out of him , for running his mouth about the place.

Now his best mate & Pub Bouncer was a different matter all together.

Hurlocks old man was a bit of a boy way back when ,
But Terry Hurlock Hard
😂🤣😂
And which pub did he run?

Ran a Sunday league side out of there in the early 90's. Played them a couple of times; they played in the Rangers kit he allegedly nicked out of the dressing room after a league cup final victory. When at Millwall, he learned to read. A pal of mine back in the day taught him.

Elsewhere ,

Do you remember his mate the bouncer ,
He also ran the door at the british oak .
Lea bridge road
The 2 brothers who straightened out the bloke
You call a hard man , had a builders merchant just down by
The Lord palmerston , then opened a Gym opposite the barclays bank
Below the old fire station .
Proper naughty pair they were .

Still im sure you knew or know who im talking about as well
Just to confirm its not being "MADE UP ".

Context is key if you remember back.

- had lost Koroma to injury over the Xmas period, nullifying our attacking threat as Alabi was hopeless
- Jobi was struggling and as we now know pushing himself above and beyond to even keep playing
- CM was our weak spot but we had a group of solid defenders
- we had a lead at the top to protect having put ourselves there through attacking 4-4-2
- dropped Ling for Turley to get some pace and aggression at RB

Now contract to Embleton's approach at the start of his reign and in some areas still now...

- cautious, nervous football sideways and backwards
- attacking threat regularly moved to LB
- respect / praise the opposition at all times to the point of being scared of them (Swindon last season)

So yes JE changed it up to get us over the line with tiring legs and injuries, making the best of whatever he had available to win a title. Are we seeing the best of this group we have now? Debatable...

When the players are let off the leash they show they are capable of decent attacking play (Bolton) but sadly it's few and far between.

JE ditched 442 towards the end of that season too though didn't he? But when he does it, it's because he's a 'good manager'.

Alabi was brought into the club by JE after Alabi ripped one of JE's former sides
A new one in 1 match .

The old fire station was on the same side as the bank.

Agree. I hope Nigel and Kent take no notice of the opening post. If it wasn’t for them we would no longer have a club to watch. People forget that when they took over we had around 8 players. ML put a team together in less than 4weeks at a time when good players were but a few. This kind of post always appear on this forum when we lose a few games. Millions of pounds have been spent by them to buy the club and keep it afloat. We do not want supporters who keep having a go at the hierarchy

We also don't want anything less than an experienced, proven Manager at this level and above to get the club promoted and make all the fans happy.

In fact Im surprised a few of you part agree with me.
When Harry S Truman was US President, he used to have a sign on his desk, that read " The buck Stops Here"...in other words when things are not right, its the fault of those at the very top.
Nigel has put too much trust in people who are not as good as he thinks they are....the bloke makes mistakes, he's human, and im certain hes made and is still making mistakes now.
As someone ( me) who has over 53 years following the club, has spent tens of thousands of pounds on tickets, on trains fares, on coach fares on petrol, on food, accommodation etc etc, I have every right to voice an opinion. If you dont like my opinion, thats fine, but theres no need for personal attacks on me, thats out of order.
I was right in some of my premises . i thought most of you have no ambition and just like Orient to be a mediocre fourth rate club, and I was right on that...most of you do.
I'll repeat, this conversation needed to happen, it isnt pleasant, but its needed.
Nigel saved the club ...no doubt, ..... the club was days away from being finished, but many things that have been put in place since, are poor IMO
Simple question - Why do you still support a so called mediocre fourth rate club as Orient.

This thread seems to have boiled down to NT is the problem because he won't sack ML who is the real problem.

Does anyone on here actually have a clue what ML does on a day to day basis, because I highly doubt it? If NT needs him it's fair to assume his role is important to the running of the club. NT is a smart businessman not some mug off the street who has just inherited a load of money
