Re: Brexit
As business generally drives the conumerntonsoend money I'd say it has a big part to play in our future growth. That in turn bring investment and the cycle continues.

Re: Brexit
Just read Honda are quitting Britain next year, with the loss of 3,500 jobs in Swindon.
Because of Brexit, cars made here are not profitable. There will be tariffs, making them uncompetitive
Where on earth will 3½ thousand people get employment in a place like Swindon

And so, from hour to hour, we ripe and ripe.
And then, from hour to hour, we rot and rot;
And thereby hangs a tale.

Re: Brexit
Except Honda made it clear their closure is nothing to do with Brexit, but is to do with worldwide reduction in sales.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 11:05 am Just read Honda are quitting Britain next year, with the loss of 3,500 jobs in Swindon.

If it was due to Brexit, Honda would have moved production into an EU country

I don't think they made it that clear....

If you're a global manufacturer and deciding which plants your going to cut because of general sales reductions, you're going to take all factors into account when choosing which it is. There's no way Brexit is going to come out on the plus side of that calculation.

Think the link you posted suggests Honda did make it clear it was not Brexit related

The Japanese carmaker, which said earlier this week that the closure was “not a Brexit-related issue”, appeared to dilute its rhetoric after the Guardian presented it with details of what Swindon residents were told last year.

Re: Brexit
Increasingly resigned to no deal. They want to be seen to 'win' against the EU. You don't 'win' negotiations. So they'll walk and pin it on the EU.
Going by their track record over the last 9 months, have total faith in their ability to manage both a once century public health crisis and a once a century economic realignment simultaneously.

Re: Brexit
What is an Australian deal, exactly? Is this just the government's euphemism for no deal?

Re: Brexit
It could easily just be called an Afghanistan Deal*. But they seem to prefer 'Australia' instead. It's a no-deal really.
*Actually not appropriate as the Afghan's have more favourable tariff deals with the EU than the Aussies.

They have been selling Kangaroo steaks in the UK for years. Not for me , makes hop off to the loo everytime.
They may export their entire stock of Rolf Harris records.
I know someone who bought one of his original paintings for thousands. Not a good investment he said. I had to bite my bottom lip.
