Re: HIGHLIGHTS: Colchester United 2-1 Leyton Orient
For their 1st goal the whole back 3 are caught ball watching, absolutely shocking defending.
But for Vigouroux it would have been 5 or 6 -1 .....I certainly wouldn’t criticise him in any way.
I think while it was a fairly narrow defeat score wise , we really hardly tested their keeper........at times it was hard to see who was playing in the DJ role up front.......Dennis was all over the place and really isn’t a striker.
Hopefully RE won’t play 3-5-2 again as we looked so open at the back.

It wasn’t 3-5-2, it was 3-4-3 (or 3-4-2-1 to be really Topjesy about it).Cheshunto wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 8:25 pm For their 1st goal the whole back 3 are caught ball watching, absolutely shocking defending.

The formation should work for us but didn’t for a few reasons:
- Our wide CBs keep letting themselves get pulled out into really wide positions, they have to stop that.
- Akinola doesn’t want to be here.
- Dennis cannot do the solo striker role.
Not only did we change formation, we also made a lot of personnel changes. Altogether, it was too much of a reshuffle. I’d stick with the formation but make a few tweaks to the players selected.
The other factor is Jobi has a stinker. Whatever the formation, when Jobi doesn’t play well, we don’t play well.

Whatever the formation was the worst thing for me was the “ ball watching “ for the first goal.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 8:48 pmIt wasn’t 3-5-2, it was 3-4-3 (or 3-4-2-1 to be really Topjesy about it).Cheshunto wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 8:25 pm For their 1st goal the whole back 3 are caught ball watching, absolutely shocking defending.

They just watched Browne, or whatever his name is, run through and nobody went with him, which is basic really.

They don’t need them. When I was a boy we used to play football before school, break times, after school and then all day over the weekend. we never needed rest days. Etc etc

Actually, for the first goal Hector didn't spot the intelligent run from the player he was supposed to be marking.(Hector will learn.)Cheshunto wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 8:25 pm For their 1st goal the whole back 3 are caught ball watching, absolutely shocking defending.

It was a clever ball in and our centre halves were not quick enough to cover.

Yes, the CF dropped deeper into the midfield area and Hector picked him up but it's not his job to track him back into our defence. Certainly not when Coulson and Akinola are both standing there without anyone to mark.
