Ratings.
Vigaroux. 7.5. Mom. Some good stops. Would have been hammered without him.
Coulson. 4. Anything in behind and he is a dead man.
Happe. 7. The best of the 3 centre halves.
Akinola. 5. Poorest game for us so far.
Thomas. 7. Decent ish game considering everything going on around him. Looks a threat going forward and plenty of tricks.
Kyprionou. 6. Disgraceful by Embleton. Only his third start and already putting square legs into round holes by sending the kid into centre half and then 10 minutes later subbing him.
Macanuff. 6. Tried hard. Saving tackle in last minute sums him up.
Cisse. 5. Bang average.
Denis. 4. Useless. Totally useless.
Brophy. 5. Shows why playing further him forward means he is a better player is a fallacy. Less space and he ain’t good enough to create in tight corners.
Wilkinson. 6. Must be sick of being stuck to the touch line.
Subs.
Johnson.5 Did nothing.
Ling. 6. Scored a scuffed shot but credit where it’s due. Can’t have any confidence so may do him good.
JMD. 6. Couple of ok crosses.
Embleton. 2. Tried to ruin a kids career and then when chasing the game replaces Thomas with Sam fcking Ling (I don’t care if he scored) and finally played his joker by leaving Dennis on for 90 mins.
Colchester. 6 Lively going forward but just a bang average league two side. That’s all it took to beat us.
Ref. 7. Good ref. Let game flow.

Re: Ratings.
Not surprised to read about Akinola because that's his first game at LB. It's clear he should play RB or CB otherwise he's wasted . In future stick Thomas at RB ,Akinola and Happe at CB and put Widdowson LB . Also I'm very disappointed with Dennis . I always thought he was a good player but for some reason he's just not cutting it .

Re: Ratings.
Coulson and Dennis nowhere near this level and we look bang average if Jobi’s not on it.

Re: Ratings.
Strange game, we were set up to pressurise in the first half and always had a goal in us, except we decided not to play Johnson who has been starved of any decent service in recent games. In the second half we didn't come out and any chance we had was ruined by some bonkers substitutions, even the (probably) forced substitution of Akinola.
Vigouroux - 8 - some excellent saves in the second half even though he could have done better for their second.
Brophy - 6 - played his part in the constant interplay in the first half but rarely made an impact in the second half
Happe - 6 - too easy for their runners to open us up in both halves
Coulson - 6 - invariably looking like a player at the end of his career
Akinola - 6 - ditto Happe, hopefully didn't pick up an injury
Thomas - 8 - MOM, was a constant threat with some intelligent play in the first half. No reason for him to come off late on
Cisse - 6 - didn't have a particularly bad game but when you have three centre backs a holding midfielder is a waste
McAnuff - 6.5 - a bit off his game today
Kyprianou - 7 - was playing well until Ross decided he should play centre back
Wilkinson - 7 - like everybody else, made little impact in the second half but in the first half was responsible for some excellent link up play
Dennis - 5 - was pointless as our target man and even more pointless when he went into midfield
Johnson - 6 - no real impact when he came on
JMD - 7 - sparked a bit of life into us when he came on
Ling - not giving him a rating but I know he will start next Saturday. Ross does what Ross does

Don't believe all you read. You didn't see the game did you. Akinola didn't play left back. Ling scored, not Wilkinson as you said elsewhere.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 5:07 pm Not surprised to read about Akinola because that's his first game at LB. Very poor from the O's. Only L Vigouroux came out with any credit. The noise of the knives sharpening on here is deafening, but Ross has brought a lot of that on himself today with todays setup, tactics and team selection

Vigaro MOTM for me, Thomas didn’t do enough defensively to warrant it. Hector was class again, it’s ridiculous that he’s only just starting out and looks so instantly comfortable playing men’s football at this standard, He will be too good for us in next to no time.
Dennis can’t play up top. Would have been better off switching him and Wilko if needed to rest DJ. Akinola has got worse game by game and looked totally disinterested. I’d pack him up and persevere with Thomas instead, who at least tries to get involved.

Re: Ratings.
Agree with the point spread but would probably bring everyone back by a point, with the exception of Vigouroux. That was truly awful to watch and Colchester could have scored 5 or 6 another day.

If any player is uninterested then surely it's down to the manager to motivate them . If he can't then it's time for either the player or manager to leave .Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 6:36 pmGenerally agree with your comments but think overall marks are too high across the board.jamespevans wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 5:17 pm Strange game, we were set up to pressurise in the first half and always had a goal in us, except we decided not to play Johnson who has been starved of any decent service in recent games. Re: Ratings.
Brophy can play left back or left wing. I don't think on this showing that he can play wing back (or at least he shouldn't).
Cannot understand why people thought Thomas was good today. Okay going forward for sure, but totally out of his depth when defending. Then again maybe he wasn't supposed to be defending.
Unsure how Dennis was still on the pitch after 3 subs.
Off day for Jobi. Passes often went astray and lost the ball a lot for him.
Hector is so comfortable on the ball, but I think he's not quite ready for the role just ahead of the defence. Better slightly more forward.

Re: Ratings.
Impossible to judge players today playing in an unnecessary change of formation that was forced on them AND playing in wrong positions. Back 3 look nervous because of loads of space down the channels. Brophy and Thomas in no mans land. Kyprianou poor kid shunted to centre back later on ! Dennis shouldn't be on the pitch let alone playing at centre forward (instead of Johnson) then midfield ! I couldn't keep up with the changes during the game so no wonder the players looked confused and bewildered. Shambles so no player should be judged on Embleton's experiment that was doomed from kickoff.

Re: Ratings.
Managers tactics all wrong. To play 352 with Dennis and Wilkinson up front was never going to produce goals. 2 shots on target woeful . Very average in all departments except goalkeeper. How can you play Hector in midfield then switch him to defence then take him off 10 mins later . What must be going round his head . Coulson is not up to this league. Dennis Ling Dayton should also leave in January. At times we miss a Matt Harold at CF.

I can't understand why Matt Harrold isn't registered as a player for the season.
Jobi is 39 and playing regularly whilst Matt is 36. He could have been at least replacing Angol whilst he is injured. Brill was goalkeeping coach and came back to play in our promotion year.

From managers after game comments he thought today’s tactics against Charlton worked well . Who is he kidding we lost 3-1. Fed up with his hap hazard approaches to the game. Players looked confused yesterday. And rightly soFour four two wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 9:10 pm Impossible to judge players today playing in an unnecessary change of formation that was forced on them AND playing in wrong positions. Re: Ratings.
Danny Senda explained it clearly after the Charlton game - playing 3-4-3 helped us offensively in getting our creative players on the ball centrally. I’d agree with that. Although you could argue the case for sticking with 4-3-3, just getting the ‘wingers’ in the front 3 to play narrower.

Re: Ratings.
We also have no real issues going forward. We are scoring more than enough, it’s the defence that’s the issue.
The biggest thing JE did was focus on the defence. He knew we were always likely to snatch a goal with Bonne and Koroma and we tightened everything up at the back and in midfield and instilled a bit of an Alamo mindset. Some of our games in the Promotion year were gash, see the Braintree game that saw us up. But we managed to sneak a goal almost all of the time. You knew, that at the minimum, every player would put their all into winning every ball.
It’s simple in principle but not so simple to get everyone on board for.

Dennis is a good player, but doesn't want to play for Embleton.
Agree with you on Coulson though, sadly.
