Re: Anti-Semite Watch
Absolute horses**t. Once again we have someone deliberately conflating support for Palestine and a dislike for the right-wing Israeli state for anti-semitism. I wonder why that is?Redcard wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 10:51 am Of course Corbyn is a rabid anti Semite, and among his odious actions he did lay a wreath at the graveside of the terrorist mastermind responsible for the slaughter of the Israeli athletes at the Munich olympics. This is indisputable and there is photographic evidence of the event. Corbyn has been accused of anti semitism by all and sundry in the public domain yet he has never sought to litigate because he knows damn well the evidence is overwhelming.
The Labour Party since Corbyn leadership has become a hotbed of anti semitism which it attempts to disguise as anti Zionism/ Israel. How is it that Corbyn and his cronies are outraged when Israel killed 25 Palestinians in reprisals for the 700 rockets fired by hammas , attending and speaking at anti Israel rallies, yet does no such thing in response to 700,000 killed and 12 million displaced, with whole towns totally destroyed in Syria.
Sorry Maxie boy, but facts are facts and dressing up anti semitism as criticism of Israel the only Jewish state doesn’t wash.

Re: Anti-Semite Watch
Agree completely with the comments about differentiating anti-Israel and anti-semitism. For some reason, all over twitter, the differences between the two are completely forgotten.
I am a jew. I also hate what Israel do and have done for years.
There's so many double standards out there as well. When an artist plays in Israel, they get lambasted by elements of the media and the music industry but at the same time, you aren't allowed to say anything about Israel without being called an anti-semite. Strange.

Re: Anti-Semite Watch
Exactly. But the differences aren’t forgotten, they’re deliberately set aside in order to act as a political smear, knowing how potent an accusation of anti-semitism is. The powerful pro-Israel lobby in this country knows this and uses it at every opportunity, even though they know it’s untrue. My concern is that all this lessens any real anti-Semitic actions. Anti-semitism is a vile thing and I worry that using accusations of it at every turn will cause it to lose impact, and that some people will start to say “oh it’s just The Jews being paranoid again”. It’s a powerful accusation and it mustn’t be used lightly.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 1:17 pm Agree completely with the comments about differentiating anti-Israel and anti-semitism. I’m absolutely certain that Corbyn is no anti-Semite - if I thought he was I’d have nothing to do with him or the Labour Party.
Good point about double standards, too. Where were the accusations of Madonna or the Icelandic Eurovision entry last week being anti-semites when they both displayed pro-Palestinian views? I have a good Jewish friend who refused to even watch it because it was held in Tel Aviv. Is he an anti-Semite too?

Corbyn is being investigated for anti semitism isn't he? Or was it just the labour party? Either way it reflects poorly against both.

German Jews warned not to wear kippas after rise in anti-Semitism.
The German government's anti-Semitism commissioner has urged Jews to avoid wearing skullcaps in public.
Felix Klein warned Jews against donning the kippa in parts of the country following a rise in anti-Semitism.
He said his opinion on the matter had "changed compared with what it used to be".
Israel's President Reuven Rivlin said the recommendation amounted to "an admittance that, again, Jews are not safe on German soil".

Re: Anti-Semite Watch
My problem with Israel haters is simple. How come they are pre occupied with the only Jewish state yet ignore all the atrocities committed in many of the 57 Islamic states. Anti Israel marches and demonstrations are prevalent yet as I stated the fact that 700,000 have been killed in Syria with over 12 million displaced is ignored. I could take you to the Syrian embassy, and there is not even a policeman guarding it. Over 70,000 killed in Yemen, Christians slaughtered in African states, churches destroyed , yet not a whimper from the left. The only nation singled out for their activism is the one Jewish state, you don’t have to be Einstein to figure out why.

Also little to nothing ever mentioned by the left about the many Christians and those of other religions murdered and discriminated against in Pakistan.Redcard wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 4:05 pm My problem with Israel haters is simple. Religious discrimination in Pakistan
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious ... n_Pakistan
Religious discrimination in Pakistan is a serious issue in modern day Pakistan. Christians, Hindus, Atheists and Ahmadi Muslims among other religious groups in Pakistan are routinely discriminated against. They are at times refused jobs, loans, housing and other similar things simply because of their choice of religious faith. Christian churches and Ahmadi worship places and their worshippers are often attacked. At the time of Pakistan's creation the 'hostage theory' had been espoused. According to this theory the Hindu minority in Pakistan was to be given a fair deal in Pakistan in order to ensure the protection of the Muslim minority in India.
Khawaja Nazimuddin, the 2nd Prime Minister of Pakistan, stated: "I do not agree that religion is a private affair of the individual nor do I agree that in an Islamic state every citizen has identical rights, no matter what his caste, creed or faith be".
According to Farahnaz Ispahani, media advisor to the president of Pakistan from 2008 to 2012, the population of Pakistan's religious minorities has declined from 23% in 1947 to around 3-4% of the population today

Her remarks are inflamatory and unhelpful. There is a para where she says that at one time the Jewish community could celebrate religious festivals in public without trepidation but Corbyn shoulders a significant portion of the blame for that not now being so. Utterly ridiculous, the change is due to the rise of the far right and for her to be saying all this in the Daily Heil, the "newspaper" that in the 1930's supported marches by fascists through Jewish areas of East London, is deeply ironic. Corbyn has spent his entire life fighting racism and anti semitism and there are many Jews he has worked with supporting community security who can confirm that.
If there are anti-semites in Labour then get them out but I can't help noticing that concentrating on a few within Labour gives the far right and fascists the run of the house.

Max I saw as I’m sure you did, more incidents of rasicism and fascism in the 80’s than now. I’m not sure it’s increasing and I certainly don’t see it getting any traction in our country, thank god.

The worst thing is, some of my fellow Labour Jews are playing along with this. Just received the following
Dear Handler,
We need your help...
Yesterday's announcement by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission shows clearly that the Labour Party has a case to answer against the charge that it has become institutionally racist. This is a significant moment. The EHRC has an extraordinarily high evidential threshold for launching such an investigation. This should put an end to the chorus of those who deny, diminish and obfuscate the scale and seriousness of anti Jewish racism.
For a party founded on the principle of equality, tolerance and fighting fascism this is a tragedy. For a party to whom much of the Jewish community has always looked to for fellowship and solidarity it is a heart breaking. The Labour Party is now only the second Party since the BNP to have been investigated by the equalities watchdog.
The Jewish Labour Movement - affiliated to the Party for 99 years - gathered clear evidence and put its case to EHRC as the Party has time and time again refused to respond to our requests, and those of the community, to put its own house in order.
Now the equalities watchdog that Labour set up when last in Government will be able to compel testimony and access any evidence it requires to uncover what we have long been saying - that Labour, through its institutions and structure, discriminates against Jews and that it has become an unsafe space for them.
We have always said that this is a problem of leadership and culture, as well as policy and process. The EHRC must shine a bright light into the dark recess of the Party and its membership if Labour is able to truly call itself a anti-racist Party again.
But we need your help...
Today we can confirm that we have retained top law firm Mishcon de Reya to assist us in protecting the interests of the Jewish community and your interests as Jewish Labour members. Leading this is James Libson, a key member of the team that successfully defended historian Professor Deborah Lipstadt against the discredited antisemite and Holocaust denier David Irving.
Donate...
Pursuing this until the end will not be cheap and we need your help and the help of anyone who cares about the soul of our Labour Party to support our efforts. All of JLM's income comes from our members and supporters.
We hope that you will consider supporting however large or small our EHRC Fighting Fund. If you would like to discuss supporting our work, please do be in touch national.secretary@jewishlabour.uk
Submit new evidence..
Last year we asked members and supporters to tell us about instances of antisemitism that they have witnessed or experienced. These responses were invaluable in our original submission to the EHRC last year. We are asking for a new call for evidence to help us ensure that the EHRC can understand comprehensively the impact on you as Jewish Labour members.
Please click here and fill in our form to assist and tell your story. We are particularly interested in motions that have been tabled in CLPs that seek to diminish or deny the existence of antisemitism within the Labour Party.
Ask for your CLP's support...
Yesterday, Holborn & St Pancras passed an emergency motion in support of JLM, welcoming the EHRC's investigation and calling for the Labour Party to release their response to the EHRC. Please consider submitting this to your CLP.
Thank you for your continued support.
In solidarity,
Peter Mason

Seems like a just cause. You’d have to be blind or tone-deaf to not support this heartfelt plea. Even if you are, consider this - the issue ain’t going away and is costing Labour votes. Time to listen more to Hodge and Berger.

Too late dis, they are in trouble and those lawyers are arguably the best around. It’s shameful what has gone on and it needs to be stopped. I can see this costing steptoe his leadership of the party.
Just imagine a party that is against fascism and racism gets done for being anti Semitic. They will truly live alongside the BNP if it’s found to be proven true.
