Mistadobalina wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2020 10:38 am The reason we've responded so badly is because of how are governed. The Tories have spent the last decade further centralising the most centralised state in the developed world. And when a crisis comes along that requires the state to be agile, utilise local knowledge and expertise, and generate genuine local consent, it has shown up all the shortcomings that power hoarding at the centre brings.

It's worth remembering that the organisation that the Tories are inexplicably pinning this all on (Public Health England) is a Tory creation from 8 years ago, when they abolished regional health boards.
Yes, and no. I take your point about centralisation but you can't ignore that the vacuum where Central Govt should have been is the biggest single factor for why we are where we are. Centralisation then de-centralisation has been the game of ping pong played for decades in the UK. Regardless of which of these styles is currently in place, this government has been found lacking in moral fibre, strength, intelligence and management capability. The full house really. Oh, and honesty & integrity could do with improving a bit as well.........

Might as well kiss the hospitality business goodbye then.

Their not telling any pubs and restaurants to close but they might as well as no bugger will be in them after Friday night.

Pubs set for boom time - all those people who can’t meet indoors can meet down the pub instead.

Depends where you live. In some areas you can do what you want if there is a y in the name of the day.

Hospitality is fu*ked then, can see some of the holding companies going bust, Stonegate is in real trouble

Still though, all must be sacrificed at the altar of lockdown for some people

Same as how do they police people being in others homes, they don't.

Yes they do. Especially if you have a Grassin' Alexa Box or a Samsung telly.

Hopefully they've learnt their lesson after f*cking about for too long in Feb and March and didnt lockdown until it was effectively too late.

Saying that, i haven't got a f*cking clue what their logic right now nor do i have any faith that they know.

Of course they don't know. They're not following the science just trying to take a "middle of the road" approach which is achieving f-all. Cunch of B*nts.

They don't know. They are playing politics with proles lives by ignoring the advice of their scientific health advisors. They knew 3 weeks go the second wave had started and and lockdown was required.

However, the economy must be kept going to produce profits for the rich. Workers lives are expendable and always have been. Why do i have to keep telling youse this. FFS!

Funny that London, and places like Essex, which are full off people who commute on stuffy and packed trains into the city now have tighter restrictions.

Still, at least about a month ago, the same government wasn't telling people they were unpatriotic if they didnt go into the office and to 'think of poor pret'.

You reap what you sow and all that.

Would the workers not lose their jobs if the economy was just ignored? And yes I know a lot have.

Also , please provide statistics of how many cases have been transmitted on the tube or on planes. Let’s lock down. Stop people earning money, ruin good businesses , destroy prospect for the young. And for what. So in 3 months time we can do it all again. It’s either a repeat of the March lockdown, or no lockdown. You decide
