Not seen any Live football for a long while and went to

Post by AckneyAwks »

Bishop Stortford last night for Isthmian Premier match against Enfield. Really enjoyed it some good quality football played by a young Stortford team who ran out winners 4-1. Good flowing game not too much passing around at the back and played at a good pace.
No VAR and no stop starting every five minutes.
There were three of us who went together and my mate contacted Stortford in advance with names and contact number i also downloaded the NHS covid app. Gave our names outside turnstile entrance, had temperature check and i was asked if i recently attended a Stortford game, which i had not. I think if i go again they will have my details to help with entrance for the match. The attendance was 289.
Not sure if this is correct but someone told me ex. Essex cricketer Ronnie Irani was involved with things at Bishop's Stortford.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be their next Tuesday when they play Folkestone.

I went to see Potters Bar Town take on my local team, Cheshunt in the Isthmian Premier.
Excellent full blooded game in which Potters Bar ran out 3-0 winners and deservedly so. We were asked to leave our names and phone no’s and had our temperature taken as we entered the ground.
It felt very safe with the attendance being around 400 and everyone was socially distanced. It made me laugh as the Official attendance was quoted as 248, but there were far more people there than that.
I don’t know if we have any scouts watching these games, but Potters Bar had two or three outstanding players, with one in particular who won’t be playing at this level for long.
Of course I miss going to the O’s but these games are a good option until the government sees sense to allow limited numbers back to the Breyer Group stadium.

Good for you !
Nothing like going to a football ground and watching a game of live football. Watching some of these lower league teams can be very enjoyable and interesting to pick out players who stand out as something special and to see if they progress later on to a higher level.

Potters Bar Town had two or three attacking players that I’ll keep an eye on Sid as they were definitely head and shoulders above anything else on the pitch.
If I thought I would get a response I would let our scouting guru Steve Foster know to take a look and see what he thought.

Yes why not, yes sounds like players that are worth keeping an eye on for the future, but for the present time, very hard for the Os to sign on any new players with little to no money coming in to pay all their staffs wages. Unless funding from the Premier League/Government comes in very quickly, many football league clubs will be going out of business altogether, such awful times that we are at present living through.

Agreed Sid, and that’s why the Government should be allowing limited numbers of fans into stadiums.
Seems crazy that pubs can allow up to 6 people to drink together :o

Was also missing live games, and so went to West Essex v Walthamstow last Friday, played at Barking FC.
Was a very entertaining, and committed game, which Stow won 3-2 after being 0-2 down. Very enjoyable watch. The commitment levels of the players put the Premiership 'stars' to shame. There were about 40 Walthamstow fans in a crowd of around 150

Going to Walthamstow v Hornchurch in the FA Cup tomorrow.
