Don't think we can call them County Champions. The BWT was a competition involving all 18 counties, whether in Div 1 or 2. A Div 2 county could have won the competition, but could not have called themselves 'County Champions'. For me, in winning the BWT Essex are 'The Champion County 2020'. They may not have won the match, but the way in which they went about playing out all those remaining overs, against what was considered the most formidable bowling attack on the county circuit, says to me that they are worthy winners and the champion county.

Or to put it another way, seventeen other counties could have won it, but didn't, Essex did! 🏏🏆

We've got the younger team members coming through. Dan Lawrence is only 23. Then there is Aaron beard, Feroze Kushni, Rishi Patel, Jack Plom & Aron Niijar to name a few who have played for the 1st XI. But it would be good if Sir Alastair and Tendo both played on for another 2-3 seasons.

You can call Essex CCC the County Champions because they were the last team to win the pennant, albeit in September 2019 and therefore are the current holders. The "Bob" is a nice little trinket on the side as is the T20 Blast.

Essex didn't have to win it. Somerset had to try and force a result.

If Somerset can't bowl Essex out (in either innings) thats not Essex's fault, it just means Somerset were not good enough, Same as last year funnily enough when even with a doctored pitch they still couldn't beat Essex.

If Somerset wanted to win they should have declared earlier, they were as cautious as Essex were

Somerset obviously love coming second. Perhaps next year if we have a curtailed season again, they can try and doctor the pitch at Lord's to suit them. Hope they all manage to get their voices back as well as they were appealing for absolutely everything, they're vocal chords must have been stretched to the limit! 🏆🏏

In years to come the records will still show "Winners of the Bob Willis Trophy 2020 - Essex CCC; runners-up Somerset CCC" and there ain't nothing going to change that.

We played the match to win the trophy, our first innings was limited to 120 overs as per the rules. We still had 3 wickets in hand so it is anybody's guess what the total would have been had we been allowed to bat on. This would have left Somerset less time to set Essex a decent target to get.

Good old Sajid making a mountain out of a molehill. Getting fed up with people getting offended when nothing to do with them.

The only one who requires an apology here is Khushi and he would have said something privately if he was upset.

Yeah that was because of the weather affecting the match badly, if it had shone I’m sure Somerset would have prevailed. Look back in this thread to see the joyous response to the crappy weather. Still why they were playing so late in the year is anyone’s guess.

All down to young men, heat of the moment, over excited, minds gone and just acting like big school kids. I can never understand why anyone thinks it is such a funny thing to spray sticky fizzy alcohol drink all over everybody standing near in order to celebrate winning a sporting event. Apparently all started in Formula One by Dan Gurney back in 1967.
''Dan Gurney invented Champagne spraying on the victory podium at Le Mans in 1967, he placed his thumb over the open bottle, shook and intentionally sprayed the onlookers, thus beginning a tradition that has transcended all sports.''

I don't even like Champagne, for myself, very overrated and some are way over priced. Then again what would I know, I very rarely drink alcohol in any shape or form, sometimes a nip of Brandy or Whisky and when I feel under the weather, sometimes have a hot drink made with Brandy or Whisky, with a bit of sugar sugar and hot water to perk me up, plus drink the occasional lager, sometimes as a shandy in the summertime when its nice to have a drink out of the fridge, also like the occasional glass of cream sherry. When young, like everyone else, I used to go down the pub and have a drink, but once the drink driving laws came in, I valued my driving licence far more than a beer so soon stopped going and if I did go to a club or a pub, then kept it down to the one pint of lager !
