Re: Charlie Hasler
Remember it well, I was on the terrace and saw it all unfolding, it was not Rotherham fans consisting of parents and kids they were letting to our part of the ground ,no, It was the p!ssed up late comers that had left the pub just before kick-off.
As hooky says the atmosphere on the terrace that night was something special.

3 of us were in the seats, as more & more drunken Yorkshire tykes were allowed in, we exited stage left to terracing. Was a good move and a lovely evening thereafter. The Gods shined on us that night. I penned angry eMails to my MP etc.

It was looking a bit ropey after the pens and the Yorkies spilled onto the pitch and advanced toward us at the Canklow Scrap Yard End.tuffers#1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 11:11 pmThey were so cockyStamford O wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 9:57 pm Great night in Rotherham.weren't the police expecting 200 and 2000 of us turned up.late night home

Couple of hundred came onto the pitch, mainly youngsters giving it the biggun, stupid posturing and jumping about.
They only got halfway before some started thinking twice, don't remember the old bill doing anything at all that night
That is correct Stamford O, friend picked me up on the A14 at Fenstanton.
As I waited there were loads of cars with scarves waving out of the windows heading up from the M11
When we got there O's fans were everywhere, think they had to control the motorway exit because of the unexpected heavy traffic.
Do know that it wasn't possible to get there by train and home again that night, wouldn't have anyway by the time it finished

Pretty sure this was alluded too in the latest John Sitton interview at some stage( if any one cleverer than me can crop the bit and put it on?)Max B Gold wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 7:21 pmAs far as i recall. Charlie wanted to do things his way . Barrold was not going to let that happen at HIS club. There was a parting of the ways.

Re: Charlie Hasler
Just to clear up the rumours - Janet was made redundant the season before I went. I found it impossible to work with the people Barry brought in so parted by mutual consent. Shook hands with Barry and left with a generous severance package.
I still watch all games home and away and I think it is now in the best possible hands. I love the Club and am in my 67th season.

At least Charlie has cleared it all up and good luck to him.

Re: Charlie Hasler
For me, Charlie's greatest hour was in the FA Cup away to Birmingham City before the game when, from our area behind the goal, he walked up the length of the pitch and right up into City end. Cue a big rumpus and eventually he came out and walked back down to us with a broad grin. He was only saying hello to them.
BTW, we lost the game.

Re: Charlie Hasler
Charlie - my old man told me about an incident in Nottingham many moons ago where you were heavily outnumbered and had to take evasive action. This included running into people’s houses and hurdling back garden fences to get away.
Please tell me this was true.

Re: Charlie Hasler
I remember a pub in Blackburn, it was back when beer in London was crap and we welcomed a trip up north
This particular pub served Thwaites with a big foamy head in oversized glasses and sold delicious meat and potato pies.
Just picked up my glass and someone I suspect was Charlie pulled out one of those canister powered air horns and let rip.
Made me jump and spilt my beer, sacrilege at the time knowing it would be a while before I tasted another decent beer back home.
It was late seventies I reckon, about the time Ray Bruce had these awful yellow headphones that were a radio

I have done some mad things in my time but -
RedO
That wasn’t me at Nottingham, sure I would have remembered that!
Neither did I let off an air horn, I have a couple of suspects in mind though ....
