Re: Selfishness
Btw, I don’t think it’s selfish to be disappointed that the tie is off.
A lot of our lives are very mundane right now and the prospect of Orient playing a big London club doesn’t come around often, so it’s a natural reaction

Re: Selfishness
Good post which offers up, by erecting a straw man, some much needed perspective.West Side Story wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 10:20 am This outbreak of Covid 19, has brought to my attention, the selfishness of a few people. A good example is the cluster of cases at Brisbane Rd. Some people's first instinct, is, " my God the match is cancelled, what's gonna happen to the tie"? Surely we should show more concern for the people caught up in this cluster of a very nasty and infectious disease. Alright the players are young and fit; but some can still be badly affected. Some are of an ethnic origin, that seem to fare worse than others with this virus. Also I am sure that there are older workers and perhaps some with a similar waist line to my own, that work on the periphery of the club. Let us not forget how contagious this disease is. Then, there is the worry of the players who find they have the virus; what of their relatives, friends and other contacts?
I do think the clamour to have our favourite sport and entertainment back , has led to an unseemly haste in trying to restore normality. I look at some of the scenes at the FA Cup matches and despair. I think it is time for a bit of a re-think, and involve thinking of others and the awful consequences.

What is it with the self pitying bourgoise individualism. Unbelievable.
If your life is mundane then just Board more.

I honestly don't think that the party in government makes any difference to how individuals behave and their attitudes.

Re: Selfishness
It most certainly does when they set the example, its basic learnt behaviour. It sounds far fetched but a caring and understanding government would lead to a similar society.

What a load of cobblers? Were people any different when Blair was leading the country? Who's talking about Blair's labour. There we go again, the Tory answer to all, "well they couldn't do any better"
We're talking about in relation to selfishness.
Blair's labour was just about more Tory than this current lot in charge are!

I'm not talking about Blair's Labour in terms of policies and what they did or didn't achieve. I'm not interested.kokomO wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 3:21 pmWho's talking about Blair's labour. There we go again, the Tory answer to all, "well they couldn't do any better"

You are saying that people are selfish because we have a Tory government. I'm saying that I didn't notice a difference in people when under Blair's government. That was a Labour government like it or not

Even on these boards, many comments over the last few months have shown a real selfish streak.
The way some people are quite happy putting others at risk from covid, by their actions etc
Twice, I've asked people in supermarkets, who weren't wearing a mask, why they weren't, and both times I was told to f*** off.
We are in such different times at the moment, yet so many act as if nothings amiss
Their should also be an official exemption card issued by the government (doesn't have to say what your problem is) issued.
I know people don't like it but it would solve a lot of problems.
‘Visor things’ waste of time according to news reports today as germs escape.

Strangely enough the number of unemployed at the end of every Labour government has been higher than when they took power.
Looks like labour aren't helping the wider population

Re: Selfishness
We are all selfish. We put ourselves and our families first; wider family next and then friends - in that order and rightly so. What I think you mean is considerate. We are not considerate enough of other people's situation and I agree with that. There's a growing band of anti covid theorists who think its a control thing; there's the ignorant and there are the idiots. I am as healthy as a man can be in his mid 50's; I have a healthy family - both at a parental level and my offspring. We follow the rules, no matter how exasperating, because we are protecting others more than ourselves. We don't fraternise in pub's or public places, we don't have social gatherings at home. These are times when we have to minimise contact.
Please be considerate to others.

Small gripe. More paras next time. Or why not start now by editing the one above. Tidy it up.
Many thanks.
