It seems that everything that can possibly go wrong with a football club goes wrong at Orient. Are we cursed ?

If there are six months of Coronavirus alert level 4 and there is a suspension of games for any period of time, I suspect a large number of clubs will go to the wall. From what I heard on Talk Sport earlier, many Championship clubs were running with player's salaries at over 100% of turnover; Reading at nearly 200%.

Ironically as Travis stated earlier, Teague and himself can afford to prop up Orient as the shortfall is only £1.5 million. Won't be the case for Championship clubs.
Clubs being run like that do not deserve to be bailed out by the taxpayers. That is just stupid reckless spending by those Championship clubs.

If they are bailed out by the taxpayers they will just continue reckless fiscal policies.

Will the taxpayers bail me out if I choose to spend several times my income?

NT said we could get a team out so I don't see how rule 5 has been breached. I'm sure we could have found an alternative venue if BR was closed. Does anyone know what the govt requirements are on closing premises for outbreaks?

It seems far more likely that the efl have pulled the plug as they're terrified about a prem team getting it from an efl team exposing the incredibly lax system they have in place and causing the whole league to be shut down.

Following the extraordinary events of today do you still think you were right and the club, RE, medics and our chairman were wrong? Or were you simply mislead by the factual statements you obtained from journalists and other ‘well informed’ people.

What extraordinary events?

I've not said any of them are wrong. I said when you have that amount of people go ill at the same time during a pandemic, you get everyone tested. I also said that if some of those players showed widely accepted covid symptoms the day before the Mansfield game, why was that game played? There are a lot of questions that need to be asked of all parties, including the EFL.

I spoke to someone who works at the club last night and he told me exactly what's happened.

We do appear to have shot ourselves in the foot with the information that's been issued so far.

If any of our players, or anyone close to them become seriously ill as a result of this, LOFC is in deep doo-doo.

Look at it this way, if your employer had required you to come to work in the middle of a pandemic, when you were showing symptoms, and didn't require you to be tested - you'd say they were seriously negligent, wouldn't you?

Eighteen players tested positive! Eighteen! We are riddled with it. And Fumbleton is on public record admitting there was illness in the camp, assuring us that it wasn't COVID - *even though none of them had been tested*. If this had been in March, you might have been more sympathetic, but this is after the world has been talking about little else for half a year. Absolutely cretinous. This will cost T&T a lot of money one way or another.

The EFL 'policy' is a joke but I do agree with BM that there seems to have been a bit of an oversight. It's a mistake but unfortunately when it comes to a potentially deadly disease, you can't really afford to do that. If it was the other way round and Mansfields manager had said that 9 people in their squad were ill, and we found out that loads of them tested positive after our game we'd have every right to be angry and ask questions.

I found it slightly odd, before the positive results, that he was ultra keen to stress that it wasn't covid in his post-match interview. Literally the first thing he did. And as you say, why say that in such a confident manner knowing that no one had been tested yet? really strange.

Why couldn't the players who were sick just go to a clinic and get a test? Why does the club need to foot the bill, no other business is paying for their employees to get a test if they're sick.

Some players had flu like symptoms. It was the middle of September and it was sunny and warm. The pandemic has been in the news for 6 months.

I mean, you'd have to be a special kind of dense to not even think "maybe we should organise a test, or just send the guy home", wouldn't you?

If it was a Leicester sweatshop (or your own employer) that had behaved like this, you'd all be screaming blue murder.

We don't know how much pressure was put on the players to turn up for work regardless. But given the vibe coming from Embleton, what we're hearing about Ling & Patel, and the general pressure on the sport to "get on with it", I'd say it was significant.

Blaming the players here is like blaming the general public for COVID. Leadership is about taking responsibility and being accountable. Our government is failing, and the football side at LOFC is failing too.

Perhaps they couldn't get one locally and didn't fancy the return trip to Cardiff.

It is not as cut and dried as that though is it?

They are a lot colds around at the moment and people with flu like symptoms.
There is also a lot of publicity around the difference in symptoms for colds and COVID and the need to not test unnecessarily.

Perhaps they all had snotty noses

Orient couldn't put game on as ground was closed and PHWF wouldn't allow it to be used

I don't think it's that easy , people tell me you can't just turn up and get a test even if you have symptoms 🤔🤔 I personally have had 2 tests ( ongoing illnesses ) All clear , my wife can't even get a flu jab cos she's 64 and they reckon they only have a flu vaccine for over 65s ☹ they say they have run out of under 65 vaccines , apparently there are 2 different vaccines 🤔🤔

Really? I don't think so. We're not into cold & flu season yet, and people haven't been in as much contact with one another over the last few months as in a normal year.

I'm sorry, but any reasonable objective person (which excludes most Orient fans tbf) looking at the situation would conclude that the Club was negligent for not taking any action at all to mitigate the risks, which should have been obvious.

We just need to hope that everyone is too knackered and/or skint to sue.
