Re: "Taking the knee"
Redo you made the claim AA is referring to originally and now you say this. What is it that offends you so much with Sir Tom and his family?

The way of the media in todays world is to create and spread negativety from whatever angle they can. We all know the corona virus has been devastating for the world and it's hard to report any good news. They seem to thrive on everything bad and repeat the same headlines 24/7 whatever the subject. If they come accross anything thats good they will dig and in some cases create a negative whether thats against a person, organisation, government or anything accross the world.
For the past month or so i have been avoiding reading newspapers or watching tv news as they have a way of controlling society and i found it all really depressing.
I am not expressing any political favour because whatever party was in power if they were centre, left or right leaning the media would make it thier priority to attack them at every opportunity which creates division in society.
Disgusting treatment !!
Also i am sure on many occassions you and others have commented on how the media treated Jeremy Corbyn which you may well have been right about regards mis-representation, unfair journalism which suited thier agenda and narrative. Boris probably gets the same on some occassions but let's not go there.
Media seem to create and dictate how governments should act, quite often i would imagine with made up versions and journalist, newscasters and presenters acting like judge and jury instead of sticking to the facts.
If you like how things are that's fine but my lifes more important to me than being preached to on how we should live by a bunch of jumped up vastly overpaid hypocrites.

Re: "Taking the knee"
Can you show me where the newsThor wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2020 6:30 pmOne point out of many made. But here goes anyway.
We are testing more people for covid than every major nation, yet the news slags off the government for not testing enough.
The positive is we are testing more people than anyone else. The negative is it could always be more, yet the news only focuses on the fact we need to test more forgetting the positive part of the equation.
" only focuses on the fact we need to do more testing "
As far as im aware key workers get tested everyday they go to work , as do football players cricketers etc.
Agaij just where the media run a negative will do

It's pointless really, i'm not going to go over every piece of news in the last decade that no doubt you would give a opposite opinion to and you could bring up a library of incidents that beg to differ.tuffers#1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2020 8:36 pmCorbyn went to an I.R.A funeral - made up b*llsh*t .AckneyAwks wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2020 8:08 pmTuffers i would imagine the first sniff of anything negative on 100 year old Tom and they will be on it like a pack of blood-hounds. T orally agree.Chicken Dhansak wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 6:23 pm I'm putting my balls in a vice here, but isn't this "Taking the Knee" thing becoming a little bit boring now. Sure, we all know that racism must be
eradicated from our society, but it is becoming a lot like overkill now. Watching the faces of some the Premier League players from
Saturdays games and they seemed to be a bit fed up with it. Unfortunately, there will always be racism because the pond life that perpetuates it
cannot be eradicated.

Re: "Taking the knee"
You should respect both national anthems as they are played. Disappointed in you and the idiots that boo and sing through them.

Re: "Taking the knee"
To make it a little more understandable for you, as you've asked before and not liked the answer given, change it from white privilege to 'wealth'.
Let's say you are female and disabled but a millionaire. You will likely face more sexism than a man, likely face ableism more than a non-disabled person but won't be likely to suffer due to poverty. So although you have hardships and challenges in life (being a woman, being disabled) you have wealth privilege. It doesn't mean your life is smoother in general, just less likely to be disadvantaged in that one particular thing.
Saying someone has white privilege does not in any way ignore or negate their personal circumstances but acknowledges that for that particular part of their life they are likely not at disadvantage.
See you soon Digby!

Re: "Taking the knee"
But to add, because it is such a political hot potato, no one is having the courage to truly address it or explain it. If you say to a group of 50 year old white men from a tough part of the country; 'Hey! You have privilege you know!' whilst they live in poverty, in work poverty or struggle to access services they need due to the state of the country, it is unsurprising they may end up hating movements like BLM, or voting Conservative or anything else nationalist. Or feel like they are being spoken down to by 'woke' people or whatever.
It is a very difficult disconnect to get right and it means the message or reality gets massively lost.

Yes. Pretty much. But that doesn't just mean nasty words or vicious attacks, it also means in some cases better employment opportunity, higher chance of acceptance to big organisations etc etc. But yeah, of sorts.Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Sun Sep 20, 2020 5:39 pm I'm not digby.
Basically, my privilege is that people aren't racist to me?
