Alex Lawless from all accounts, was and is a dedicated professional and I am sure will be an asset in helping to coach the younger players in the Leyton Orient football academy.

THE CLUB CAN CONFIRM THAT FORMER O’S MIDFIELDER ALEX LAWLESS HAS JOINED THE LEYTON ORIENT ACADEMY COACHING STAFF.
The 35-year-old played 44 times for the O’s in a two-year spell before spending last season at Ebbsfleet. Having enjoyed a playing career spanning two decades, the Welshman now turns to coaching.

“I’m delighted to be back. I’m focused on developing the youth,” said Lawless.

“I was keen on everything the club is about. To be involved with the academy is a really exciting challenge.”

The U18’s start their season this weekend, hosting Southend United. This game will be behind closed doors, meaning supporters will not be allowed to attend the fixture*

how disgraceful of Ling to think the academy may need coaches.

As everyone knows Academy players coach themselves and get sold for multi million pound fees with no coaching

From all accounts, Alex Lawless is a really dedicated guy and was model pro and very well liked when he was here as a player. No doubt working mainly to get extra coaching experience and to pass on his knowledge of the game to the youngsters. I see a win-win here for both Alex and also the club. Gives Alex a chance to gain more coaching knowledge and experience and later on to move on to a higher level coaching job in football.

Alex is a model pro and as a player the fittest at the club. he was studying a sports related degree and is well liked. spoken to him a few times and he is a really nice guy

No issue with Lawless as an individual. But it does seem that if you get on with Ling, you can stay on the payroll after you stop playing, at the possible expense of bringing in an actual player.

Or, looking at it another way - he's better qualified than Embleton to run the first team, so why is he languishing in the Academy? *arf*

Feels like one of those U.S country clubs that you patronise. A tightly controlled world of acceptances and rejections, All knitted cashmere roll necks and where the chairmans daughter is expected to marry the club pro. The directors are more successful than me (arguably and only just) so they should know what they are doing. Not convinced myself.

Yes. Ling is clearly looking to leave more than just a mere legacy- but to create an actual dynasty. All funded by lovely old Uncle Nige. Maybe I should start calling him Lingkaschenko.

That is how football works. You generally see people move from one club to another all the time. If your face fits you are in as well, sometimes people who are better are let go if the coaches or managers like you more then bingo. Seen it many times in my life.

I don’t see Ling doing anything untoward here, it is just normal business to me and at the end of the day Lawless will be judged on what he does ultimately. I hope he does well for the club.

Some will see it as ling building a protection around himself, I see it as him trying to raise the bar on our coaching set up, trying to develop players ready for the first team and ultimately earn the club money in the medium to long term on player sales.

Best deal was Zakuani for £1.5 million, followed by Obubajo for a shade over £1 million. All the ones since have gone for relative peanuts.
