Re: Discrimination
I think football is unique, you wouldn't interview lots of players for a position then appoint like a regular job.

Re: Discrimination
It’s not just recruitment of players though - what about how they’re treated as equal employees within a team?
No idea what point Uppy’s trying to make though.

Re: Discrimination
Well, if your point is "I don't want any discrimination within team selection", then hear hear.

I do want lots of discrimination.
I want the best players picked and the worst not. Tgat is discragaibst those with a lack of ability.
There is nothing wrong per se with discrimination. We all discriminate whether its in choice of shoos we use, people we like, football teams we like

Re: Discrimination
Ah right. Yeah definitely, nepotism as well as it being a boys club where people who are mates with the powers that be get contact extensions and/or coaching roles. So discrimination maybe not the right word but iffy decisions not based on talent - definitely

Re: Discrimination
Another word overused and thrown around to cause controversy.
Any manager at any club will pick what they feel to be the best team to win a game.
Every fan will have their opinion on what their team would be.
Just because the two don't match it is not discrimination.
There may be an element of favouritism in that a manager may trust one player over another to play a particular role but I think that to suggest discrimination is insulting to a manager.

Re: Discrimination
I was using the term in the context of the topic at hand - i.e. discriminating against someone in respect of a protected characteristic. But you knew that.spen666 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 1:37 pmReally,Wally Banter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 1:25 pm Well, if your point is "I don't want any discrimination within team selection", then hear hear.

Re: Discrimination
Nobody had mentioned anything about protected characteristics in this thread, merely discrimination at large.Wally Banter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 1:50 pmI was using the term in the context of the topic at hand - i.e. discriminating against someone in respect of a protected characteristic. Re: Discrimination
Well, I'm here to inform you that this thread relates to the EFL's Not Today Or Any Day campaign to tackle discrimination in the League. I'm assuming 'discrimination', in the scope of this campaign, does not include things like choosing which boots to wear.

Perhaps if you thought out your post rather than having a brain fart on paper then people would not have to assumptions to what was meant.UpminsterO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 2:18 pmNot thrown around look simply if you have not got the capacity to think the original thought out why bother making a assumed perception which is not correctOrnchurch wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 1:43 pm Another word overused and thrown around to cause controversy.

Re: Discrimination
I’m sure Ross chooses the team based on who he feels likely makes the best contribution for the upcoming game, opposition, style and importance, player skills, temperament, past performance, fitness, attitude. Having weighed it all up, Ling get the nod for the important stuff.
Fair enough.
Fair enough.

"The club have stated that this is not tolerated"UpminsterO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 12:04 pm The club have stated that this is not tolerated - fine I agree totally
I acknowledge the club have made a drastic effort to improve all aspects of the club- football / investment / running of the club
Is it fair to assume that discrimination does not extend to all the players selection - ie it's natural in life for anyone to favour a person if they like them above others we are all human
Well, they're not going to state that it is tolerated are they ?

1. Any post that made an assumption on the original post is a result of their own intellect or ability - but I won't discriminate in my reply -however I guess you need to realease any excess air in private not in public - thanks

Re: Discrimination
Do you suspect that the coaching staff 'like' some players more than others? Perhaps they could publish a ranking of all the players based on how matey they are with them?
