Re: Sitton interview
Thuggish No!!...but i do remember him jumping in the air and doing a Karate kick around shoulder height on big John Gayle of Birmingham City right in front of the dugout. I nearly choked on me Westler hot dog well i did most weeks, they were bloody awful.
Think the referee said "i'll let you have that one John" as it's your first.

Re: Sitton interview
Torquay away - Sitton executes the wurst tackle I have ever seen in the field of play and was sent off for it. I still can’t believe that his victim escaped with his limbs intact.
Hence, for me, Sitton will always be a thug

Re: Sitton interview
When supporters who watched the game in the 60's/70's and 80's reminecse about how football was played they will talk about the goalscorers, characters & showman plus the hard men or Thugs as some like to call them. Every team in all divisions had these characters and hard men who you would actually look forward to watching when they visited your ground.
There was players who would play up to the crowd and wind them up and at the end of the day you were entertained.
The main frustration i have with todays game is the blatant cheating for being fouled and a mug of a referee who keeps giving it. John Sitton was a typical no nonsence hard man defender, did he ever go over the top, of course he did but that is what certain managers wanted and certain players provided. What cant be denied is Sitton was a good defender at his level.

Man United - Fitzpatrick long hair midfield in the 60s - he was a not a artistic footballer
Brentford - midfield -Chris Karama and I believe also terry hurlock - both liked to hack people
It won't be popular but I saw Darren Purse I think it was in the Enfield cup game and he was so late in a tackle and high too I remember their player ( not the one that got the kick )giving such a verbal - purse was late on other occasions when he was at the start of his career
Let's look up the word thug use the Oxford book OK of words - do you want other players that we all seen how about the French now bearded one who did that famous stunt Kung foo in the crowd - yeah Eric Cantona
( admittedly after a similar incident previously)
I know Leos Brother John well ( Ilford boy)
& Farther of Jonathan Fortune ex Charlton Sheff united stoke etc .
It took nearly 3 months & a few operations to heal a samshed eye socket &
Broken jaw bone.
