Have a listen, i found the part about Jeff Hurst being overrated and how sitton would have marked him out the game particularly hilarious.

I thought having been given the job with Turner in he was very unfortunate not to be given a chance - but when you listen to interviews like part 2 you realise why.....

I always considered Sitton to be a very mediocre football player; and an utter liability as a manager.

Just listened to first part, WTF. According to himself, he should have had Steve Bruce's career, his managerial methods were on a par with Ferguson and Wenger. His is a football financial genius and his book should be short listed for the Man Booker Prize.

Factually it's all over the place, according to him Orient were in the top 8 of the 2nd tier throughout the 70's. He hated among others, Frank Clark, Matt Porter, Charlton, Orient fans but said that 75% of us wanted him to be our manager when Travis took over.

Far from destroying him, that documentary has given him a platform where without it he would have been a forgotten ex pro. He has milked it for past 25 years and is just a circus act.

As a player I shared a dressing room with Sitton. He was a really nice guy, a very popular member of the squad and was the laugh and soul of the dressing room. On the training pitch he was professional, off it he looked after the younger players and made sure we were involved in everything. He always encouraged us and never once slagged anyone off.

So when you lot all slag him off, yet you’ve never shared a dressing room with him, never trained on the same pitch as him and never played in the same or opposite team you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. I can only speak about my experience of him and it was positive. As a young lad we looked up to players like him for guidance, support and direction and he never let us down. Trust me Frank Clark would not suffer fools too easily.

Yes he seems bitter now, but he has been totally and utterly rejected by the game he loves by what can only be the perception that came out of the back of that documentary. If you had known him back then as a player you would probably have a different option on him rather than spouting off about someone you’ve probably never spoke to in your life.

Firstly, what do you know about his coaching methods to say they are very "out of date now". Have you ever sat down and had a one on one about coaching with him, he would probably talk about things you never even knew about.
Cant argue about what you say about "Lower league player" but i hope you know that none of our current defenders are anywhere near as good as he was.
I have never met John Sitton and dont agree with everything he says or the way he handled the Terry Howard ( Bring your dinna) situation.
On the sole subject of coaching he has received a lot of praise for his methods and tactics from other ex.pros and coaches.
Some of the things he speaks about including "face fits" comments are true as they are common in other industries of work.
Probably nowadays someone like John Sitton could not get a job in coaching as his style and approach would not be seen as PC or maybe even H&S

I agree with you broadly on this, in the same way its frustrating when people talk about Embleton not being motivational, for example, without seeing him properly in action minus a little clip here and there. However, of course people can judge and slag him off on other things, like how bitter he sounds or how much rubbish he spouts on twitter. We might not be able to judge him on the training ground as you may, but he does come accross as a tit now.

I also agree with him that in football sometimes your face doesn't fit, but he had his full licence and hundreds of games as a pro. Once he got to three or four years without a first team job in the league he could have got an academy role or a managers role in the Isthmian League - but he didn't. (Bar a spell coaching at Leyton). So if he had got his head down he could be showing his football brain off to the world now so it does feel like he chose not to.

Don't agree yes I heard some of his ranting and it's not good in other interviews

However he was/ is frustrated as he showed to me how much he had to offer and that he still may be able to assist

That bloody edited film that finished him off was crap in the big picture as he rightly demonstrated in his style in this interview

Sitton was a coach/manager moulded to work with Sitton like players - but Sitton was a rare breed and considered few people before himself. It has always been his way that it was his way or the highway - and that's why he has been driving a taxi down the highway for the past 20 years.

When he played every team in the league had that type of player in fact a few years earlier Leeds had eight or nine.
Being totally honest i would much rather watch them type of players than those of today who fall over when a breath of wind gets up. They then roll round covering thier face (probably laughing) or hold thier ankle. Next minute they sprint all over the pitch and four hours later are throwing some moves in a nightclub.

He got a raw deal - he is more intelligent and football wise than a lot give him credit for

He got a full coaching badge / followed football and I reckon given a chance could be a real attribute in coaching

It's interesting interview I have real empathy but like me also from hackney talking straight and being honest with people does not help him - I know that I expierenced similar in a different industry

It's a real shame that people that can tell people what they want to hear get promoted others get left behind and then it's too late

Go on Lofc get the guy to assist in some way as a part time person then when you seen his ability if it's still there it could be a real help

Cannot Lofc assist Sitton to then get back in the game if he has that ability still and Lofc contacts would be helpful
