Re: Tory Watch
What’s been making the headlines up here in Norfolk is Norwich North Conservative MP and Cabinet Office minister Chloe Smith’s husband, who has been ranting that Covid-19 is a mental illness, and on Boris’s time in hospital had said “he had a psychogenic fever because he is fat, stupid and easily led.”.
Chloe Smith has distanced herself from her husband’s comments, and the general take on it that she can’t be responsible for his opinions, which is of course correct. Darned embarrassing though.

Well to suggest otherwise would be pretty sexist. Still plenty of time for someone too though

Re: Tory Watch
If it was her brother, that would be a massive problem.
As its only her husband, that’s not an issue.

When the Tory Government introduces daily testing to bring
a full house back to Parliament , then & only then should they
demand for Office workers to return en masse .
Think of the money being lost in the M.Ps bar & restraunt !!
Shameful

'It was always going to be no deal gives them far more credit than they are due. There hasn't been any grand plan, just a stumbling from one lie catching up with them to another, saying whatever is needed in the short term to push the reckoning down the line.

Re: Tory Watch
Feels like high stakes brinksmanship to me. Classic tactic of offering up something dreadful (in this case, the prospect of Parliament legislating to override the Withdrawal Agreement) as a bargaining tool against getting a compromise from the other side (state aid rules and fishing rights).

Re: Tory Watch
It's such an obvious bluff isn't it. The government is bargaining from an absolute position of weakness, Johnson's support is collapsing both within parliament and in the wider population, the economy is in tatters and they are f*cking up every major decision they have to make. The idea we'd chuck a no deal exit into the mix and completely hack off our biggest trading partners is for the birds.
Still, it gets the country focussed again on the one thing that Johnson got his popularity for.

You say his support is collapsing amongst the wider population but he’s still got that 40% that will always have his back.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 10:24 am It's such an obvious bluff isn't it. Re: Tory Watch
However, whilst the economy is wrecked adding a no deal in won’t be so bad will it? Get all the bad news over in one fell swoop. That’s not my opinion that’s what I see them heading towards.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 10:24 am It's such an obvious bluff isn't it. I guess in the same way that if your house is already on fire chucking some gasoline would only make it burn down faster.Thor wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 8:58 pmHowever, whilst the economy is wrecked adding a no deal in won’t be so bad will it? It even goes against the Tory logic of 'global Britain'. The democrats have been very clear they would never sign off on a USA fta with the UK if it reneged on the Good Friday agreement, which our current exit deal does not. It'd accelerate Scottish and NI exit from the UK as we'd effectively be saying that the English component of the country was willing to f*ck over our biggest trading partners in pursuit of its own English centric agenda. We'd be (once again) shafting the Irish, our closest neighbour and currently the only country we share a border with.
The reality remains that we do the majority of our business with EU countries and to leave that on the worst terms possible and with a clear signal we couldn't be trusted for toffee wouldn't be so much a pivot away from Europe as cutting ourselves off entirely and with a pretty lukewarm welcome from the rest of the world.
Which is why it has to be a bluff.

Bluff or not, the government's top lawyer has just resigned - apparently over the prospect of a government bill counteracting parts of the Withdrawal Agreement (an international treaty).

Re: Tory Watch
The NI sec has said it would break international law. How are these mugs still polling at over 40%? How does 40% of the country think Johnson is doing a good job? What more do they need to do to demonstrate they are completely unfit to govern?

Yes but we're only breaking the law, and our word, in a "specific and limited way". So that's OK then........
Even Teresa May has pointed out that it will be difficult to get other Countries to ever trust us again if we go down this road.

Re: Tory Watch
This is not a good look for the so-called party of law and order. It also further erodes any remaining moral authority the government may have been clinging to.
