That's absolutely fine - the main objective of a Union is to protect its' Members against unscrupulous employers.

As an aside, one of the better Union Reps. that I knew in my younger years, was actually a Tory voter (before switching to the SDP).

Believe me, with the cessation of Furlough in October; and the potential removal of a raft of employment rights following a No Deal Brexit; it is so important, possibly more than ever before, that people have the support of a Union!

Personally I think the furlough scheme will be extended as there will be too many jobs lost which is what the scheme was trying to prevent.

In all my years or working I never joined a union, never had a problem and can only say that we were treated pretty fairly, I say that as people will always want more.

Now a friend of mine was in a union and he spoke very highly of them and what they do. He went on to do the knowledge and is in that union now and again he thinks they are great. I guess it’s what your used to and or what type of company you work for as I’ve never worked at a company who recognise unions.

Biking isn't really practical for a lot of people for a variety of reasons.
Doesn't stop them putting in these sodding bike lanes though.

It doesn't, and no amount of "do it for the coffee shops!" will make a gnat's difference. Office buildings have been reducing the desk:person ratio for years, I remember 8:10 at my old place of work about a decade ago, now it's nearer 6:10 or less. And that's before you consider crowds in lifts, entrances etc. But all of that is the polar opposite of a COVID-safe office, which is nearer 1 person per 4 desks to allow enough space.

And there's a simple reason why not one of the top 50 businesses is planning to get everyone back into the office: money. Why spend the money on rent for office space, and even more money to make your building COVID-safe for any more than a minority who can't wfh, when at least some of your staff positively want to work remotely?

The planned campaign is a complete waste of time and money. Even once the virus has been eradicated (or mitigated) in however many months or years time, there will be a sizeable number of people who can work remotely and will never want to go back to overcrowded transport and overcrowded offices. The genie is out of the bottle, it ain't going back in.

Yesterday the official Home Office twitter account released a video denouncing 'activist lawyers' frustrating the removal of illegal immigrants, today Britain First release a video proudly harassing asylum seekers.

Maybe not a direct causal link between the two but the government is actively encouraging the sentiments behind it. Still, mustn't grumble too much about it or expect much in the way of condemnation from sirkier in case it alienates the racists in the red wall seats labour needs to win back.

Why not? I live in Crystal Palace and work in Stoke Newington and I commute by bike every day, 26 miles. Takes me an hour each way, keeps me fit and saves me a fortune.
