KMT’s State Of The Squad: Wingers
Laurie Cunningham, John Chiedozie, Alan Comfort, Ricky Otto, Dean Cox. We’ve always loved a wide boy in the East End. Do we like these ones, though...?
Retained: James Dayton, Louis Dennis, Jordan Maguire-Drew
In:
Out: Kazaiah Sterling (Loan Ended)
First Choice
Jordan Maguire-Drew
Pros: Best crosser at the club; can create in tight situations; could chip in with around 10 goals.
Cons: Wildly inconsistent; needs to work harder when we haven’t got the ball; not sure he has headed a football once in his entire life.
In reserve
Louis Dennis
Pros: Currently something of a mystery. I think he’s two-footed, but it’s hard to tell when he has spent his entire O’s career lying prostrate on the floor.
Cons: Doesn’t look to have adapted to the rigours of League football; brushed away from the ball more easily than Cinderella at midnight; played for Bromley.
James Dayton
Pros: Hard worker who is dutiful defensively; effective corner taker; strong beard.
Cons: Bit of a one-trick pony who almost always looks to come inside on to his left foot; probably playing one division too high for his level of ability; abuser of defenceless shin pads.
In a pinch
James Brophy, Jobi McAnuff
Top 7 Bound?
With Ross’ proclivity for shoehorning a striker into the other wide berth, it’s not really an exaggeration to say that the form of our one genuine wide player will dictate how creative we are as a side. JMD might be a little more inconsistent than we’d all like, but his overall productivity would be welcomed by most sides in the division. With another season under his young belt and Ouss Cissé’s presence theoretically allowing us to be on the front foot more often, I expect JMD to take another step forward. Let’s just hope it’s not a step into a pothole where he breaks his ankle. 46 games of Louis Dennis, anyone...?
FFS Ling?
Picking JMD up from Brighton has unequivocally been one of our best moves in the transfer market in recent seasons. A+. D-for the other two, and that’s before the Tories’ algorithm is applied to the grade. Any chance we can pretend to be a public school in Leamington Spa? Wouldn’t be displeased to see Kazaiah Sterling given another chance because he’d offer us a bit more pace, though there are definitely other areas of the side that we need to concentrate on.

Really still hopeful for JMD but this season will probably decide if him and Dennis are around next season. If they both live up to the hype then our season could look very different.
Dayts has been basically injured for the last 2 years and I dont hold much hope for him contributing much. On his day he can be a bit of a game changer but his day seems to be about 2016.
personally still in favour of Brophy on the wing.

Brophy on the wing for me. I think JMD will stamp his authority on the division this season though.
I won’t be holding my breath waiting for contributions from the other two.

Dayton is an interesting one. Before his injuries, he was effective on the wing, but so far in the two friendlies, hes played in a central attacking midfield role, and IMO hes looked good.
Still not sure what is JMD best position, wide right, wide left, or central
Where is Louis Dennis? Didn't feature against spurs, and there seems to be some issue behind the scenes
The best winger IMO at the club, is Brophy, but hes being picked at left back / left wing back

On Dayton
Pros..Wins cheap free kicks by backing into the opponent then falling forward.
Cons..Does it too often, the refs get wise to it and we loose possession
JMD
Pros.. Likes to chip the keeper and does it reasonably well
Cons.. Can going missing for long periods.

Re: KMT’s State Of The Squad: Wingers
Brophy: Ross has found him a berth further back that allows him to use his athleticism more and also be more direct towards goal. As a winger he's very ineffective simply because he can't cross....

I think Dayton will prove his value to the squad this season by coming off the bench into an attacking midfield role.

JMD who cuts inside all the time is our first choice winger but our actually best winger is ‘in a pinch’

Because, as we have already discussed, Brophy will be playing at left back. Is there anything else entirely self-evident that you would like me to explain?BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 2:55 pm JMD who cuts inside all the time is our first choice winger but our actually best winger is ‘in a pinch’
