Highlights v Spurs U23
For those that missed it last night.
Good to see us going so direct. But the state of our defending for their goals.

Ling doing his usual ineffectual nothing-ness for Spurs' first. That isn't going to change, clearly.

Re: Highlights v Spurs U23
Northampton will be a much tougher test although I think they have lost one of tHeir best players, Charlie Goode to Brentford.
Our attacking play looked good though last night and Jobi at 38 looked one of the sharpest on the pitch.

Re: Highlights v Spurs U23
The frustration in those highlights is watching their goals both from wide positions which should have been stopped, in fairness to Myles Judd thought he was very good when he came on last night, that said I would like to see Turley get game time on Saturday at full back because out of Ling, Judd and Turley he would be my preferred choice.

Agree about Judd. If he can stay injury free, this could be his year.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:56 am The frustration in those highlights is watching their goals both from wide positions which should have been stopped, in fairness to Myles Judd thought he was very good when he came on last night, that said I would like to see Turley get game time on Saturday at full back because out of Ling, Judd and Turley he would be my preferred choice.
Not convinced about Turley at full back as he lacks pace.

Didn't want to name names or else be accused of having an agenda but yeah, you're right. Doesn't get within touching distance of the fella, just backs off and backs off. Reminds me very much of the late, great Stephen Purchase.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:04 am Ling doing his usual ineffectual nothing-ness for Spurs' first. He wasn't much better for the second either, but several others also culpable for that.

Agreed with Turley being the preferred choice there, but that means Coulson or Widdowson have to start alongside Happe.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:56 am The frustration in those highlights is watching their goals both from wide positions which should have been stopped, in fairness to Myles Judd thought he was very good when he came on last night, that said I would like to see Turley get game time on Saturday at full back because out of Ling, Judd and Turley he would be my preferred choice.
I really hope Judd can continue this form and go on and have a great season for us.

Ling also played a part in their second goal as well.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:04 am Ling doing his usual ineffectual nothing-ness for Spurs' first. That isn't going to change, clearly.

Re: Highlights v Spurs U23
The problem is though roles were reversed on Saturday Judd was out of position and lost his man when Reading missed an open goal just before half time a common Judd fault Ling came on and looked good. But that's the dilemma neither is consistantly decent they both look good at times and crap at others. Turley is the second quickest player at the club, no lack of pace. He should be first choice right back and we should concentrate our effort on finding a decent centre half, although scanning through the PFA free agent list last night there wasn't really a great choice.RedO wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 9:39 amAgreed with Turley being the preferred choice there, but that means Coulson or Widdowson have to start alongside Happe.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:56 am The frustration in those highlights is watching their goals both from wide positions which should have been stopped, in fairness to Myles Judd thought he was very good when he came on last night, that said I would like to see Turley get game time on Saturday at full back because out of Ling, Judd and Turley he would be my preferred choice.

Do you mean the one when Wilkinson let his man run off him? That one?

Watch the highlights. Judd gets caught out of position.RedO wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 10:56 amLink to Judd losing his man please?Top of the JES wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 10:12 amThe problem is though roles were reversed on Saturday Judd was out of position and lost his man when Reading missed an open goal just before half time a common Judd fault Ling came on and looked good. Re: Highlights v Spurs U23
I've watched the highlights back and can't see it.
Do you meant the one when Wilkinson lets his man run off of him then passes the ball across the face of the goal and their striker misses an open goal? If so, that was Wilkinsons man. That may happen playing a striker in that position.
I'm sure you can't mean that one because it's so obviously Wilkinsons man, not Judds.
Nice whatabouterry though.

Re: Highlights v Spurs U23
Judd makes two errors, first tries to get clever on the by line and looses the ball when he could have cleared it, Then gets dragged insidee and tries to win a ball that's not his and in doing so leaves a bloody great hole for the Reading player to run into. Wilko didn't do his job either but rule one for a full back is don't leave space and let opponents get in behind you.RedO wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 12:14 pm I've watched the highlights back and can't see it.

It's Not like it's the first time he's done it but he doesn't seem to be learning.

Is that you admitting you called it wrong and it was Wilkinson that let his man go, not Myles?

No it's seeing the whole picture, and you trying to deflect away from another Judd error. If he defends it better in the first place and puts it in row Z the situations over. He's the one who leaves the hole for the bloke to run into.

Re: Highlights v Spurs U23
I totally agree Judd should have cleared that ball. But he didn't and we had re-organised so that's irrelevant and in any case, it's not the point you made.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 1:51 pmNo it's seeing the whole picture, and you trying to deflect away from another Judd error. You said Judd lost his man for Readings chance (from which they didn't even score ffs) but he didn't. Judd was tight to his man. It was Wilkinson who let his man run off of him. If you play Wilko in that position, it's going to happen.
This is bonkers. Ling has made a couple of howlers last night but you're ignoring that, instead going on about Judd. Absolutely bizarre.

Re: Highlights v Spurs U23
The bloke actually runs off of Wright and then Wilkinson.
Judd is - almost - touch tight to his man. There is no way their left back should charge past both Wright and Wilko but he does. No way is that Judds fault. Anyone suggesting it is has an agenda.

Re: Highlights v Spurs U23
Er really, I praised Judd for last night when he did well, he was far more convincing than Ling last night but had an easier ride after the Spurs subs. both our full backs are inconsistent or at least consistently poor, which is why I would want Turley there. We should move on both Ling and Judd on ASAP, neither is good enough.RedO wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 9:39 amAgreed with Turley being the preferred choice there, but that means Coulson or Widdowson have to start alongside Happe.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:56 am The frustration in those highlights is watching their goals both from wide positions which should have been stopped, in fairness to Myles Judd thought he was very good when he came on last night, that said I would like to see Turley get game time on Saturday at full back because out of Ling, Judd and Turley he would be my preferred choice.

Re: Highlights v Spurs U23
I remember, back in 2009, when we beat a nearly full strength Newcastle United team 6-1. The following season Newcastle were promoted
to the Premier League and we ended up 17th in League 1, so don't read too much into this result.
