KMT’s State Of The Squad: Goalkeepers
The season is creeping up on us, so I thought it’d be a good time to expose our biases and relentlessly criticise/drink the Kool Aid for each position group at the club.
Goalkeepers
Retained: Sam Sargeant, Lawrence Vigouroux
In:
Out: Arthur Janata (East Thurrock United)
First Choice
Lawrence Vigouroux
Pros: Commands his area; safe hands; inspires confidence.
Cons: No glaring ones that I’ve noticed yet.
In reserve
Sam Sargeant
Pros: Good reflexes; improved both his distribution & coming for crosses; still young.
Cons: Extremely vulnerable at his near post; doesn’t kick well with his weaker foot; not communicative enough with his defence.
In a pinch
Dean Brill, Matt Harrold
Top 7 Bound?
With Vigouroux in goal, certainly. From his limited showings, I can’t see there being many better keepers in the division, so hopefully he stays injury free.
FFS Ling?
Not here, at least. No point in carrying two senior keepers, especially as a salary cap has been introduced. Sarge is an adequate, cheap back-up and it’s not difficult to get another keeper in - even outside the transfer window - should Vigouroux be out for an extended period.

Vigoroux's Barnet deserves a song
Its nearly as good as Henry's Fro back in the 70s/80s

Vigoroux looks decent and Sargeant is there for the warm-up, doubt he'll play much this season at all

Really happy with Vigouroux in goal. Sometimes a bit flash, rolling around when not necessary, but a very good signing by the club. And with Sarge as backup. This is not a position that bothers me. Sorted.

I think Vigouroux is our best keeper in a long long time. Still chuffed we got him. Pretty bang on assessment.

I’ve got a pretty high regard for Alex Cisak; I think he’s somewhat underrated due to his time with us coinciding with the Mad Frank era. That being said, I think Vigouroux has the potential to be our best (contracted) keeper since Paul Heald.Mr. Peanutbutter wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2020 7:44 pm I think Vigouroux is our best keeper in a long long time.

he generally rolls around when trying to buy us time for example near the end of a game or when we are under pressure. I actually like this part of his game as its good reading of the situation and shows excellent match play. How many times have we watched frustrated when the opposition keeper does it? Now we have a smart one who is well versed in game play cos I can't remember the last one we had that did.

Didn’t mean that, I have no problem with game management, or time wasting when winning. But his general game. I’m not complaining at all. Bob Wilson of Arsenal used to be the same. A really good keeper and a great signing.Thor wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2020 10:51 pmhe generally rolls around when trying to buy us time for example near the end of a game or when we are under pressure.
