Quarantine France added

Post by Thor »

Along with Holland, Malta, Monaco, Aruba and Turks and Caicos Islands.

All have to do 14 days in quarantine from 4am Saturday

What are you doing to enforce it? Anyone coming from overseas here has to pay 3k to stay in a hotel were they're not allowed to leave the room for 14 days. Security and police man the hotels and anyone who breaches it gets fined.

Adz: are you posting from NZ or Aus?

In the UK all the quarantine edicts seem to be more about 'posturing' , the sort of thing Johnson does to try and feel important in Europe or anywhere, actually.

Aus, we're pretty strict here, NSW in particular has been doing a great job. NZ doens't allow anyone in, still hasn't stopped them getting a new case despite 100 days of no cases. Obviously been simerring in the background without anyone knowing.

I'd imagine holiday returnees will basically only make a token isolation effort and ignore the quarantine rules, but the big issue is travel insurance being invalid once a country is on the FCO don't-go-there list, so most will cancel planned trips.

Yeah, but you can take out battlezone insurance which basically covers you for that.

Adz- There's no real enforcement of quarantine in the UK.

The UK has the most stringent 'World-beating' measures. We truly have 'taken back control' of our borders.

You have to declare, prior to entry, exactly where you will be self-isolating for 14 days.

Then we...........................................................(add wind and tumbleweed).

With those measures in place I'd hazard a guess it never went away, people were still catching it, but as we know most people won't even know they have had it. Then one of those people come across someone who's immune system is compromised and off it starts again from a visual perspective.

Let’s face it who is going to quarantine and who is going to enforce it, no one. Unless people are going to be locked down in a prison like environment for two weeks when they get back in the UK, it’s an utterly useless exercise.

And if it’s that important why not straight away??

If someone brought in a rabid dog, would we get over 24 hours to bring back animals from Europe before it was stopped???

So much for whack a mole Boris you ****

Update: Just read an article where the transport secretary says you get a phone call to check if/make sure you’re following quarantine guidelines. That should do it then , panic over

Surely you don't expect Priti 'despicable' Patel :clown to sort out this matter, do you?

The Home Secretary is far too busy with her binoculars, on the white cliffs of Dover, looking out for rubber dinghies.

Sod the thousands of unchecked people flying into the UK each day...........she's got ice cream to shout at!

I think people still have landlines, when I moved my broadband to Virgin it was about £10 a month more without a landline, work that one out. So if that is representative then people will still hold a landlines.

So even if they do ring on a landline do you seriously think that someone will come round and follow it up,

How many was it after the first set of quarantine restrictions were set up, 3 fines or something stupid like that for the whole of the UK and don’t tell me it’s because everyone was following the regulations.

New Zealand, serious about the situation CLOSE their borders

Our shower of **** , you get a fine if you’re really really unlucky

Different attitude to the virus pandemic = different outcomes.

It really is quite simple.

I know personally three people who have self-isolated now.

None have received a call, or a visit, to check whether they are abiding by the rules.

Just so that you know, enforcement is carried out via random spot checks, with those in quarantine being told that they may be visited by public health officials at any time to ensure the rules are being kept to.

Really?

Not sure most people do have landlines tbh but even so, and having recently come back from France, I know the form asks for a phone number. I gave my mobile number and that was that. So, I could have returned, been officially in quarantine and answered any checks whilst supping a pint down the local. It's a farce.

Its weak, but what could realistically be done? A guard to lock you in your own home? Ankle tag?

Good questions but the government initially said that there would be randomised visits to your home, or place of quarantine. That wasn't particularly strong but better than the current proposal where a phone call is being touted. It's getting weaker and weaker. It's just posturing.

If the government was serious then they would be massively restricting incoming travel and perhaps even using designated quarantine sites which could be policed. Practically anything would be better than the governments current proposal to, maybe, give you a call, or not.

Good point. Lots of piss taking but no real, human rights friendly, ideas on how to enforce quarantine.

With people still going abroad it relies on them being responsible and self disciplined upon return. No chance.

You just proved the point why "going abroad" ought to be stopped unless there is a robust quarantine process available.

Definite options for a PROPER quarantine system in my opinion. people have been seen to be totally irresponsible and uncooperative (from the top DC) in response to this whole pandemic and can’t be trusted to do the right thing, so what choice is there???

Personally I would’ve totally closed the borders in March, but if you get seriously weak leadership this is what you end up with.

I agree that it ought to be stopped but can you imagine the public outcry if it was?

People talk about Covid but very few actually believe that it can affect them.

It has allowed NZ citizens to return home .

bonio hits the spot with his post above.

I personally agree we should lockdown the borders now! They should have been locked down months ago and probably made things much worse than what it should have been. However, wasn't WHO saying at the beginning saying air travel was fine? Also I recall our own medical experts saying it wouldn't make much difference.

It does lead to you having to ask questions as to why?
