Who should/would be travelling internationally anyway at the time of a worldwide pandemic?

Close the borders for three months and let’s see how quickly we get a hold of eliminating this awful virus.

Like New Zealand, we are an island, so will therefore surely be better placed than most to get on top of the situation. Stop travel to stop the spread.

Yep, you may stop a few hunderd people more dying of corona ( given most cases are spread by people already here now), but several million will die of untreated illnesses or starvation because they cannot get enough food or necessary medication.

The economy will collapse far more than iit has already and millions more will be out of work

I think it's obvious the OP was talking about individuals travel tbh. Clearly we'd need to allow import and export of goods. Business meetings can be conducted pretty much via tech. Where documents/contracts need signing there are technical remote sign-off solutions to this too. Holiday travel is the area that needs to be restricted for the short-term and that's more or less happening now by default anyway. To close borders to everything other than essential travel should be possible but in all honesty, it should have happened back in March. To do it now would be challenged in the Courts, as already threatened, by the travel industry and would be generally unpopular. And we all know that Boris doesn't like doing anything to make himself unpopular.....

Sort of agree. Really do not understand people travelling abroad atm. Each to their own but surely you can give up full English's on a beach in spain, surrounded by Brits until next year. We have some lovely beaches.

Hahahaha - brilliant. Well you really can't be being serious but you did make me laugh. Year to date the average number trying to cross the channel is just over 10 a day. I suppose there's not much difference between thousands a day and 10 a day. My bad.
