I think it's a ploy to address those who think he's too old, doddery, senile to be president for the long term. It also appeals to the centre right who don't like Dems but hate Trump more.

Personally I think his choice is very important. Should Biden win, which I doubt, the the VP will become President when Biden fails to complete the full term. I can’t see him doing the full term, he struggles to put a sentence together now. A fading politician. The job will be too much for him. The VP role will increase in importance.

But really, always happy for good news! I would, if I were you, exercise a little caution as to the motives. You wouldn't want to be a sheep like the rest of us so I'd maybe delve a little deeper into the 'why' behind Trump's involvement too. But if it keeps people safe and is fair and just in the long term happy days, I doubt you'll find left wingers disagreeing with that.
