Over here you can go online, put in the ticket number and it'll show you the picture, imagine it's the same in the UK

UK police don't legally have to provide you with their evidence unless you challenge the speeding ticket. So most don't.

if you challenge it, you're entitled to see the evidence against you ie the photo. But challenging a speeding ticket is basically pleading not guilty & opting to go to court which works just the same way as it does with other offences - if you're found guilty, the punishment is likely to be more severe for talking up the courts time.

I've known people to get speeding tickets for doing only 24 mph in a 20 zone . I think it's become a money making racket .

20% over the speed limit seems fair enough to get a ticket

I do not enjoy driving anymore, especially around London. So many cameras etc waiting to pounce for any slight mistake you might make. What with all the amount of cars on the road, some cutting you up, impatient drivers etc, OMG, you often need eyes in the back of your head ! I wish all the bus lanes in London would have the same times they were out of bounds, gets confusing. Another thing that annoys me is when you are driving around in London/ Outer London and it suddenly change from 30mph to 20 mph zone, miss that 20 mph sign, go through a speed camera and thats your lot !!

If there is no link to enable you to see the evidence, or if you are unsure you were at the location of the ‘offence’ then there is a possibility this is a scam.

A few years back our Company were targeted by fake motor offence notices with instructions where to send the ‘fines’.

If it is genuine then I agree with other replies that you should pay up and move on. You can never get anywhere with these matters no matter how fine the margin of speed above the set limit

The police always have to provide evendence of the offence, it was certainly an option on my last speeding ticket in 2017. They provided a link, I went on it and it showed that my average speed was above the set speed. Check it out, and if you do plead guilty there may be an opportunity for you to take a driver awareness course which educates you and drops the points, which is obviously worth doing.

Google, there is all sorts of info on genuine websites about such matters and parking offences. I've had a parking ticket rescinded because of what I learnt on one website and challenged the ticket (for my wife !!!).

It is a money making racket. These cameras take no account of time, amount of traffic on road, road conditions or other circumstances and bosh its a fine.

Meanwhile other people drive like tossers, drive without insurance, drive dangerously and leave the scene of accidents as they are probably over the limit or drugged up and what action is taken against them? None, plod aren't interested despite how many CCTV cameras might have evidence of the incident. No money in it.

Is this your first offence in the last Three years?

You may be offered a driver awareness course instead of a fine and 3 points on your license, if you are it's worth going too, it cost is about the same as your fine would be.

Failing that just swallow it, pay the fine and watch your speed, the tolerances of going over the limit have been lowered so need to watch the speed limit.

tolerances of going over the limit have been lowered

Didn’t know that. I’ve never had a speeding ticket but always thought the tolerance was (limit x 110% + 2mph), so for instance at 30 you’d get away with 35 and at 70 limit you’d get away with 79. What’s it changed to?

Best now to err on the side of caution and if possible drive a little under the limit. With all these speed cameras around now, you could go out for a day in your car, go very slightly over the speed limits a few times and end up being banned from driving.

Interesting bit at the bottom there - I'd noticed that my speedo underdeclares compared to the speed showing on my GPS satnav but didn't realise it was standard. I guess that makes sense.

Which means you can add another 10% into the mix, should be ok doing about 85 on a motorway with those tolerances combined. :D

Remember you are not guilty until proven otherwiset.Test their evidence. E.G Challenge the calibration of their equipment. It needs to be tested and verified before it can be used to produce admissible evidence in court.

How do they even know you were the driver. Before offering the fixed penalty or prosecution option you have to confirm who the driver was. But keep in mind what happened to the Peterborough MP when you decide how to answer the question!!

In these parts the police are notoriously poor at acting within the law on road traffic offences and specialist lawyers find technicalities that defeat conviction. Mind you they're not cheap.

On the way back to Scotland yesterday I was gunned on the M74 but slammed the brakes on to break the beam by levelling up with a car on the inside lane. I'm pretty sure they didn't track me over the required distance and in any event I went from 80 to under 70 in about 20m.

I will keep youse posted on any developments.

I find the great big 20's painted on the road, the sad face electronic signs and the regular signs at least every 200 metres just about sufficient. You pretty much always get all that before a camera, I've certainly never seen a speed camera after a single change of speed sign.

Untill i get caught I'm a firm believer that if you don't at least see the camera coming then you really are going too fast.

I find the electronic signs a good help, sometimes in London I have suddenly found myself in 20 MPH zones very quickly. Very annoying is when the speed signs are semi masked by trees in front of them, got done many years ago in the early 1970s at North Weald ( near Epping ) when in a 40 mph zone, the 30 MPH change of speed limit sign was virtually masked by a tree !! I could see the police car behind me but carried on at 40 MPH as was completely unaware of the change of speed limit. I sent a letter to complain about this tree but it was ignored and I was fined and licence endorsed.
I noticed a month or so afterwards that they trimmed back the tree a bit but even then it was partially in the way of the speed sign, well out of order !
