My lasting memory of him must be him fighting his evil thoughts as a Christian in a room above a pub he was staying at in The Wicker Man as Britt Ekland danced naked ‘offering it to him on a plate’ the other side of a thin wall. However, apparently they used a body double for Britt Ekland’s backside shots.
Eh?

Well thanks for that.

You do realise that you've shattered an illusion that I've had since I was about 13? :|
And when Rod Stewart was with BE, he tried to buy up /destroy all the copies of the film as he disapproved of others looking at her in the nude .. and as you say it wasn’t even her. Apparently BE would finish the days filming and literally pass her body double as they changed shifts ... and didn’t even know. BE later said she was rather miffed with this.
Christopher Lee said it was his favourite film and I would agree.

Don't forget Lenny Henry. He started on New Faces in the 70's.

New Faces - that show has got a lot to answer for. Not just for the acts either; the judges were horrendous.

Tony Hatch who literally slated everyone - although I once saw him and his old woman (Jackie Trent) as a duo; and they were absolutely woeful.
Mickey Most - who only ever seemed to wake up and appear bothered being there, when he could sense a record deal.
Saving the worst until last - Arthur Askey......who was forever breaking into a rendition of his one hit the 'busy bee' song. It was excruciatingly painful to watch.

It was also the show that launched Roger de Courcey onto our screens - probably the worst vent act you'll ever see. A moustache that covered his top lip; whilst the mic covered his bottom lip......and you could still see them moving.

Many were black like Williams (forgot first name) and our own Lenny Henry who made a career taking the pee out of black people then forgot about his early career then spent the rest of his Career criticising people taking the pee out of black people and the got a Knighthood. Funny old world.

Budgie was repeated on Talking Zpuctures about three weeks ago. One of those old series where you could see the scenery moving.

Charlie Williams.

He used to play for Doncaster Rovers.

There was another black guy on 'The Comedians' who I thought was better than Charlie Williams - I think his name was Jos Wight?

No fella, the worst ventriloquist act is happening now - Dominic Cummings and his doll, Boris.

What would that money get you now?
Star Trek, Wonder Woman, The Champions, Randall and Hopkirk, The Avengers. Also, I love watching all the old films and tv series so that I can see all the old cars and motorbikes, all pure nostalgia.

Chris Moyles made me smile yesterday as he was talking about the court case concerning the words “the royal butler” and he said I still can’t take the professionals seriously anymore, his co hosts asked why? He said the geezer that was the boss of CI5 was a butler (upstairs, downstairs) now tell me how does a butler get the job as the head of CI5?

Many of the shows mentioned are 60's shows, so don't qualify on this thread, otherwise I would have said" The Prisoner" the greatest show off all time ever First shown 67/68.

Indeed, the likes of Star Trek, The Champions and The Avengers were all in the 60's, also almost all of Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased).

I'm going to add the first two series of Blake's 7, Space:1999 and the Jon Pertwee/Tom Baker eras of Doctor Who (apart from Baker T's final series in 1980) into the 70's mix here.

I don't think it ever was ready for TV!

He was however the perfect vent act for radio.

Believe it or not, there did used to be a vent act on the radio in the 1950's, called Peter Brough (his dummy was called Archie Andrews).

For my money, particularly for Television, Ray Alan and Lord Charles took some beating.

Thinking back to vents on Stag Nights, there was a really good vent act - Terri Rogers and Shorty Harris. It was a brilliantly thought out act. Shorty was 'one of the boys' and would rip into Terri. However, if anyone heckled (which the act was scripted to achieve) then Shorty would bury the heckler by going full circle and defending her to the hilt. Terri worked her way from The Wheeltappers and Shunters Club on Granada TV, all the way to Las Vegas. Terri Rogers was actually a Transsexual; and there was controversy at the time of the operation because Terri was a creator of magical effects and an accomplished Magician. The Magic Circle, a Male-only Club at the time, wanted to expel Terri; who took them to court for sexual discrimination. The result is that female membership was finally allowed.

Bringing this thread back on track; as I could bore people to death talking about UK performers (I've always had a massive interest in Music Hall, old time live acts, 1930's music, etc. due to family links). There is an absolutely brilliant episode of Minder - The Greatest Show in Willesden. Arthur gets an old-timer vent act back onto the circuit, years after retirement. It's a moving. beautifully-engineered plot; and although from a later series, remains a firm favourite.

I hope that anyone who wants to watch it, also thoroughly enjoys it! :D
