In the circumstances the board had to ask but the players were more than within their rights to refuse. A 20% cut at that level is going to make a pretty big dent in those players personal finances, especially considering that its full-time. The players may get a better offer from some other club or they may fall back on some other trade and play part time. In both cases they'll be better off.

The Dover players have been asked to take a short term 20% pay cut to ensure they and the Admin staff still have employment with the club in a few months time, they've declined to do so.
Dean Cox on The Orient Hour tonight has said he and several others have taken a 50% wage cut to ensure Eastbourne Borough survive this crisis.
Poor from the Dover players tbh. I understand they need the money, but would they rather have zero?

The way things are going, many good players in lower league clubs will have to start looking outside football for regular incomes and employment.
