Out of contract in summer 2021
I think we have the below out of contract next summer - will make amendments where necessary.
Lawrence Vigouroux
SamLing
Joe Widdowson
Josh Coulson
Dan Happe
Jamie Turley
Myles Judd
Craig Clay
Josh Wright
Jobi McAnuff
James Brophy
James Dayton
Jordan Maguire-Drew
Hector Kyprianou
Lee Angol
Conor Wilkinson
Danny Johnson
(think Sargeant, Sweeney and Dennis have another year)
Can't say there's an awful lot of this group that I'd definitely keep. Vigouroux, Happe, Brophy, Maguire-Drew for sure, and maybes over Kyprianou, Angol, Wilkinson and Johnson depending on how they do this season. Think we should be looking to integrate significant upgrades into the squad from January onwards and try to clear out some deadwood.

I think thats its a bit disrespectful to use the word 'deadwood'. They are all human beings after all.

Re: Out of contract in summer 2021
I dunno, it's a pretty common expression to use for players that are taking up space but contributing little.
Happe, Brophy and Maguire-Drew are the priorities for renewal I'd say - hope we have started talking to them about new deals already as they're only going to get more and more in demand the closer they get to free agency.

Looking forward to a big clear to next year. This year is consigned to another flirt with relegation/bottom ten finish. But we have a chance to rebuild in 2021/22.
Unless Ling starts dishing out useless contract extensions again.

How would you like it if you saw your manager's private work appraisal and you were described as 'deadwood'?Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 3:26 pmI dunno, it's a pretty common expression to use for players that are taking up space but contributing little.

Re: Out of contract in summer 2021
This is totally different though - there's no chain of command between me and the players so I can summarise my thoughts by using words like deadwood. In my professional role if I was underperforming/not able to perform to standard I'd expect my manager to provide constructive feedback, examples and help in formulating a development plan etc in my appraisal. Clearly I don't need to go into that much detail regarding our players here.DuvB wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 3:41 pmHow would you like it if you saw your manager's private work appraisal and you were described as 'deadwood'?Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 3:26 pmI dunno, it's a pretty common expression to use for players that are taking up space but contributing little.

Re: Out of contract in summer 2021
Could be a difficult one for the club do they look to bring in between 6 to 10 new signings which could test thier finances or do they offer new contracts to our current players on lower wages. If the financial implications of no/small attendances were not a major concern i would favour at least 6 new signings. Hopefully any signings would be players for specific positions and not multi-task Jack of all Trade types.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 3:37 pm Looking forward to a big clear to next year. Re: Out of contract in summer 2021
Quite a few there who will be 32+ by then and surely past the point where you'd give out a 2 year contract. Some in there with a point to prove this season so jury out on whether we / they would want to stay.

Agree and also something to be said for the risks of brining in 8-19 brand new players.AckneyAwks wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 3:55 pmCould be a difficult one for the club do they look to bring in between 6 to 10 new signings which could test thier finances or do they offer new contracts to our current players on lower wages. What id like us to do is to identify our ‘core’. The players we can build around who fit the style of play that Ross wants to play and secure those players, and then supplement them with quality.
I still think we are suffering a bit from having to throw a squad together in June 2017 after the clown left. Which is no ones fault. But I’d like a bit more of a structured approach going forward.

Agreed with the certs, I’d also add Hector to that list, he’s going to be a great player ((hopefully with us if we give him some game time this season and make him feel wanted).Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 2:29 pm I think we have the below out of contract next summer - will make amendments where necessary.

Everyone else depends on how they do this season but don’t expect any of them to be tearing up trees under this regime.

Re: Out of contract in summer 2021
Mate that was 3 years ago. No one brought in during that summer had a contract extending past today. It’s nothing to do with Bechettis reign.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 4:00 pmAgree and also something to be said for the risks of brining in 8-19 brand new players.AckneyAwks wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 3:55 pmCould be a difficult one for the club do they look to bring in between 6 to 10 new signings which could test thier finances or do they offer new contracts to our current players on lower wages. Re: Out of contract in summer 2021
I would have thought that contracts will only be offered to the players who have proven themselves and had a good season. I think with all that’s happened clubs will be more prudent with their cash, more selective on offering contracts and due to a raft of players being available be more focussed on the right players.
Covid has changed the game in ways we have yet to see.
