Dunners wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2020 10:40 am It's really not that straightforward. The quarantine 'policy' is, quite frankly, a load of bollox and I really do not blame anyone for ignoring it. Think about it for a moment:

1. You are being asked to fill out a travel declaration form. However, you are entitled to arrive without having done so and (according to reports from travellers arriving in the UK) nobody actually checks. Seriously, look it up.

2. If you were to properly quarantine, you would need to be collected as you disembark from your flight and taken to a special detention centre or hotel. This is what happens in countries where they have a proper quarantine policy.

3. Instead, in the UK, you can mingle about in the airport before getting on the tube or any other form of public transport as you head off to your home. Once there, sure, you are meant to quarantine for 14 days. But who is going to actually enforce that? Many UK police forces have already publicly stated that they will not be enforcing government policies, such as this and the wearing of face masks on shops.

4. Quarantine is a policy that this government have introduced as a half-arsed measure, purely to make them look good while it does everything it can to deflect from the way they handled the crisis in care homes. That is the real scandal.

5. Quarantine - when managed effectively (see point 2 above) - at least makes some sense as a strategy. Sure, some will agree or disagree with it, but there's at least logic to it. There's zero logic to this. Which means we're being played.

6. Quite how we're being played is anyone's guess. It may just be about deflection of the care home disaster. It may be so that, when there's a future enquiry, the government can point to this decision and say, "oh, but look how decisive we were." Or it may be that, as we have our foot on Spain throat, we're using this as part of some behind the scenes negotiation for trade post-Brexit. But whatever it is, it is not about quarantine or your health.
Sums it up perfectly!

And while this pandemic is causing major destruction to jobs, businesses, lives - what is Johnson's latest government initiative?
LOSE WEIGHT.

It's all about his ego and photo opportunities where he can talk about himself and claim success ...

E10EU people who are overweight possibly obese open themselves up to diabetes, high blood pressure among other issues. Covid has demonstrated that people with diabetes have the highest risk factor for one catching covid in the first place and actually dying from it.

I’d suggest that the government imploring people to lose weight is sound advice actually.

Albeit the message may be better coming from someone who isn't an overweight, salad-dodging oaf - who appears to have never gone hungry during his entire privileged life?

As I said on another post, this is clearly a diversion from his abject mismanagement of the Pandemic; not to mention the "all-singing, all-dancing, oven-ready Brexit Deal" that was going to be delivered by the end of July. Still no news of that, for some reason?

As I also said, if this useless Tory Government were serious about stopping obesity, then why not actually do something about it - such as banning high sugar content drinks? Oh no, they won't do that will they. Lest we forget the The UK sugar tax - officially called the Soft Drinks Industry Levy (SDIL), the tax puts a charge of 24p on drinks containing 8g of sugar per 100ml and 18p a litre on those with 5-8g of sugar per 100ml, directly payable by manufacturers to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

By the way, sorry to rain on your parade, but people with Diabetis do not have the highest risk factor for catching and dying from Covid-19 infection.

At least you are consistent in making this BS up as you go along!

Johnson's anti obesity campaign at this time is a bit like watering your pot plants while the house is on fire.

Your point is?

Diabetics are MEDIUM Risk - NOT the HIGHEST Risk, as you initially stated.

You really are a typical Tory Thor......you can NEVER admit when you are wrong, can you.
