Is to finally stop printing its catalogue. Truly the end of an era.

These pages in the Argos Catalogue always made Ratners look like a high quality jeweller.

The Argos catalogue brings back some memories, me and my bro used to flick through it as kids and you had to select one and only item from each page. Would entertain us for hours

I heard on the radio this morning that comedian Alan Carr chose the Argos catalogue as his book to take on the island when he was the guest on Desert Island discs

They had a short period circa 2003 when they tried to sell clothes and I'd cut out all the lingerie models and put them on the inside of my wardrobe.

For younger boarders this was when Internet porn took 6 hours to download a 3 minute clip that wasn't very good

Ah, the old laminated book of dreams (Bill Bailey joke).

I’ve bought a few bits of tat over the years in there, but never dared stoop to buying a bit of Lizzy Duke jewellery for the better half.

As a youngster, I was more inclined to browse the mail order catalogues (eg Freeman’s), working out what shiny baubles I desired and how many pennies it would cost on the never-never weekly payments. After I’d studied and memorised the ladies lingerie section in depth, of course.

It was always embarrassing when the Great Universal catalogue used to naturally fall open at the 'shiny baubles' pages because of overuse.

Hands up time then I suppose, as others are coming clean (no pun intended) and confessing their sins.

My Mum ran a few catalogues; from memory; Marshall Ward, Freemans and Littlewoods. I had that many shoes from them, I'm surprised I didn't end up with club foot.

As a young teenager, these catalogues were indeed a constant source of 1970's essential readership on a Sunday Night; when my parents would toddle off out to the pub. I can still remember to this day, the abject disappointment of finally getting to the more mature ladies pages; and realising, even at such an innocent age, that the Grans modelling thermal belly-warmers; weren't nearly as interesting as the pages that went before.

Sunday nights was also the time when the odd bottle of spirit in the drinks cabinet would evaporate slightly as well - apart from the Advokaat left over from the previous Christmas (or probably two or three before that)!. Until this day, I don't know whether that stuff tastes as bad as it looks.

Happy days, from a time that was a lot less complicated but oh so much more fun.

I dont think i have drank Advokaat since the late sixties at Christmas time. I'm sure it was mixed with lemonade and called a snowball plus the accompanying cherry on a stick. I was only 9 or 10 but i think i liked them🍹🍒😁

Advokaat was always left untouched until the following Christmas.

My parents always had a bottle of Advocaat and lemonade in the cupboard at Christmas.
When I got married we did the same in our household and I guess it just snowballed from there that we buy it every year
