The one in kent that a friend of mine owns who is a mix of cumbrian &

While there are many travellers who indeed are of Irish descent you'd
be hard pressed to say all or nearly all are of Irish descent.

My Dear Mr Tuffers, I think you need to read before you spout off. Most English Itinerants are of Romany origin. Romany ethnicity is quite separate from the main British gene pool. It is believed that they originate from somewhere East. Perhaps even India. In days gone by they were thought to have originated in Egypt. Hence the word Gypsy. Hence their dislike for this word as it is inaccurate. Most Romanies packed up their itinerant lifestyle by the 1950's as they were encouraged to stay in permanent dwellings. Romanies tend to be dark-skinned and swarthy.
Irish Itinerants have a pretty pure Irish Gene pool. There are a few differences, as they have bred somewhat separately from the rest of the Irish population. There are some arguments amongst people who study Racial Origins. Some believe they started to become itinerant after Cromwell's interference in Ireland. Some say it goes back a good deal further. Throw in to this mix, the Politics. The Irish Itinerants believe it is in their interests to develop the idea the are Racially separate, as they can weaponise Racialism to excuse bad behaviour. But you will travel a long way before you find a geneticist, who will tell you that Irish Travellers are something approaching a separate race.
Your findings about Travellers being English for very many generations doesn't mean too much either. A Travelling generation is much shorter than the norm. They marry and have kids at a very young age. Also go back a 100 years there were quite a few Itinerants not of Romany origin. They were Tinkers ( mended pots & pans etc ); then you have chair bottomers, tinsmiths, broom binders, traders, peddlers, beggars etc. These people have never been liked generally as they were seen as being thieves and tricksters and not paying local taxes. This goes right back to Mediaeval Times and probably longer.

Get a visit annually on a green nearby, nice spot, they stay about a month, usually accompanied by them offering to trim the trees or collect old iron from the neighbourhood. This is followed by Council staff arriving and cleaning up the absolute pigsty they kindly leave behind.

The trees planted to make their Access visits less easy got uprooted so they can get in, the other trees served to create washing lines.

The council now let the area run wild. Not as attractive to look at or live in. Thus far it’s worked.
