Re: Game of Thrones
I read the first book and then watched the associated TV episodes and enjoyed it. Then I watched the next series and a half but gave up as I couldn’t keep up with all the characters and plot and counter plot. Come winter time and dark evenings I’ll try again

Re: Game of Thrones
Its 10/10 for 3 seasons and slowly goes downhill. It's probably just about worth the journey though.

I’ve got the whole box set. Simply put it’s the best series I’ve ever seen in my life. Buckle up because you’re in for a ride

Re: Game of Thrones
I'm with Apple Wumble on this. First few series are very decent. After that each series manages to decend a layer of shiteness, gradually undoing all of the brilliant character development and plot lines until you're left with the final episode. And that is when you'll wish a plague upon the houses of the scriptwriters, or the murder of their first born sons.

Re: Game of Thrones
Hang on in there it gets really good and each season just gets better. For me the best episode is the “battle of the bastards” that was immense.

You should try the 'Wheel of Time' series of books by Robert Jordon in 13 volumes, no one has ever tried to film it is too complicated, very good story though.

Re: Game of Thrones
Brilliant series, superb acting (lots of Brits in it) great storylines (you can even accept the dragons) with lots of unexpected heroes dying! Every series excellent except the very last one - best not watch that and make up your own ending!

Re: Game of Thrones
I didn't actually mind the last series that much (ok, I'll get on the fire without help).
I was late to the party for GoT, but absolutely loved it. Managed to persuade Mrs Spike to watch it during lockdown - really not her cup of tea, normally, but she really enjoyed it too.
Stick with it Const"""yyyyyy - I'm jealous - wish I could watch it all again without knowing what was coming.

Re: Game of Thrones
I liked GoT (and the books), but after binning Sky and seeing the panning the concluding series got never bothered with it. Maybe I'll watch it if it comes up "free" somewhere and see if it deserved the critical kicking it got.
Not fussed if Martin ever writes another tome either, really. The last book seemed to be drifting without any obvious signs of how he might conclude things.

Don't worry Stillspike - when you get to my age you can watch it over and over and it's fresh every time!StillSpike wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 11:39 pm I didn't actually mind the last series that much (ok, I'll get on the fire without help).
