Bit hard to win a 100 sprint when due to the incompetencies of the previous competitor you replaced, you have to start running from the stands.

Re: Labour Watch
Firstly, I did not vote for Starmer QC for leader.
However, I think he's bridged the gap pretty effectively from where we stood, as a party, last April.
He's not what I would consider a left-wing Labour Leader. I still believe that Jeremy Corbyn would have made a fantastic Prime Minister and led our Country to a fairer, successful, more decent society. I absolutely adore the guy; and it's still gut-wrenching that he was oh so evidently destroyed by the constant lies and character assassination from the media.
However, I am not backing Starmer out of blind loyalty to the Labour Party. I am backing him because a Labour Government under his leadership, would be a darn sight better option than the godforesaken bunch of lying, incompetent Tory charlatans that we have now.
Starmer, in my honest opinion, is destroying Johnson at Prime Minister's Question Time each week. Let's be honest - how many people actually watch this? They simply follow the lies and biased reporting of the BBC and the majority of the Tory-supporting MSM. Therefore, what more would anyone have suggested he'd done by this stage?
Whether he makes a successful Labour Leader is impossible to say after 100 days in office; particularly during these somewhat unprecedented times.
However, I've seen enough so far to be pleased rather than disappointed.
More importantly, clearly so are many of the UK Electorate.

Re: Labour Watch
I agree with your point 1-3.
But I find it quite depressing that Starmer is determined to take Labour back to Tory-Lite. He even appointed a former Blair big wig to the post of General Secretary now.
Starmer has brought all the noisiest Corbyn haters to his shadow cabinet: Jess Philips, Wes Streeting, Lisa Nandy, Rachel Reeves .... and many others.
Rachel Reeves was the one who acquired fame by resigning from Corbyn's shadow cabinet even though he hadn't actually offered her a post yet!

Re: Labour Watch
Nothing will change. The difference between another 5 years of the tories and a Sirkier Labour government is paper thin.
Turbo capitalism will still continue, the wars abroad (some legal, some less so) will still continue, the ever rising inequality gap will still continue, the destruction of he environent will still continue.
But at least we’ll get a few dozen surestart centres, I guess.

Re: Labour Watch
Plus Reeves is the horrorshow that said 'we don't want to be seen, and we're not, as the party that represent those out of work' in 2015. Bang smack as the Tories were doing their best to dehumanise the disabled community, of whom many were not working. Horrible. Wanted to be 'tougher than the Tories'. Proper scumbag.E10EU wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 3:49 am I agree with your point 1-3.

(Also a very popular thing to say in this country at the time which shows why you shouldn't vote because you want a winner, but should vote because you want someone good).

Re: Labour Watch
It’s all right being pro-Corbyn but if he ain’t going to get elected what’s the point? To win you need to appeal to people who hold the centre’Ish ground, left or right.
You can be though by some a wonderful man, a wonderful politician, a wonderful leader. But if you can’t get elected it counts for Jack.

Firstly, let me be clear I voted for Starmer QC (quiver chops) for leader.
However, I think he's bridged the gap pretty effectively from where we stood, as a party, last April. Well if I'm being honest he couldn't be any worse than Corbyn, now could he? No he couldn't, could he?
He's not what I would consider a left-wing Labour Leader. I still believe that Jeremy Corbyn would have made a dreadful Prime Minister and led our Country to bankruptcy. I absolutely adore the guy; and it's still gut-wrenching that he was oh so evidently lacking charm, charisma, intelligence and wit. Also he lacked the obvious polices that the rest of the country voted for, still nevermind you can't have it all?
However, I am backing Starmer out of blind loyalty to the Labour Party and I am backing him because a Labour Government under his leadership, would be a tory lite party where money rules and deep down I love the smell of fresh money.
Still if he messes jt up I can always vote for Boris again. I just love his Barnet!
Fixed a few errors for you NuneatonO.

Well that was a pretty woeful contribution Thor (even by your standards).
Never mind. It has gone Midnight in Australia; so maybe I should be in bed.

Re: Labour Watch
Labour apologises for spreading falsehoods and have paid significant damages to the whistle-blowers and a BBC journalist in their defamation case against the Labour Party
They were smeared by Corbyn's people for exposing systemic antisemitism in the Labour Party.
Defaming your own staff for pointing out racism. Disgusting

Re: Labour Watch
I think it has been handled very well, the smearing has been admitted and the staff compensated. The people involved with the smears should now be excluded from the party, if they were ever members in the first place.
Meanwhile in Brighton three Labour councillors have been forced to resign over anti-semitic postings resulting in the running of the council being handed back to the Greens. It would have been so easy to white-wash it over and stay in power, but they did the right thing. Well done Nancy Platts, the Labour Leader.

Re: Labour Watch
Have to agree, Kier has done a fine job here of minimising damage to the Party's reputation and drawn a line between the bad old days and his new era
Unfortunately the former leadership that presided over this shameful debacle are refusing to let it go. Indeed Corbyn's statement today is full of the petulance and lack of self awareness that came to be oh so commonplace during his tenure. I understand it John Ware is consulting his legal team to see if it amounts to further defamation

Re: Labour Watch
Couldn't give a toss about it if I'm honest; hence I didn't bother to comment.
Moreover, there's so much embarrassing news relating to the Tory Party these days, I find myself rather busy on that particular thread.
As for 'joke fans'.
Does that include someone who doesn't even know how to correctly spell our intro song; not to mention the fact that the UK also has 'Midnight'?
Anyway, how's the response to your 'Cabal' theory coming along from the Trump thread?

Some of the people who went to great lengths to smear Corbyn have now been given a generous payment by Starmer.
