Holidays 2020

Post by Long slender neck »

Anybody still going away this year? :8

Just a couple of British breaks booked. Abroad not looking viable.

Yep. My flights from Southend to Palma on 4th August still going ahead. The villa is ready and, as the previous bookings were cancelled, we won't have a pool full of skin cells and piss. We'll be near the North and East coasts of the islands, so away from the hoi polloi. Most things are open. Really looking forward to it.

Nope. 99% certain we had it in our household back in April anyway.

It's tempting, flights look cheap.

Just something to be aware of perhaps.

Friends of ours flew out to Lanzarote last Saturday. Apparently, the place is a bit of a Ghost Town; with half of the bars and restaurants still closed.

The other half fancies a boat trip up the river Shannon, which sounds good to me from a fishing point of view. Flights to Ireland are dirt cheap as well.

Been in Lanzarote since 13th July on the first Tui package flight out apparently

Puerto Del Carmen is almost deserted with 60-70% of the shops/restaurants closed. Only a handful of hotels open also but our one Rui Paraiso Resort have been super with the social distancing etc.

If you want to risk it then it's well worth getting away as you have the beach/pool pretty much to yourself

Yes we are due to go to Tenerife for 2 weeks in September, which was booked last October.
We are in an apartment so no hotel issues and Tenerife cracked down early on in the pandemic and places are reopening fast there now, with restrictions.

You will probably have to self isolate for 14 days when you arrive...

Not going abroad this year, but will have a couple of breaks in the UK.

Not really influenced by covid, as such, though of course it is a consideration: more trying to put money away for a holiday further afield next year.

Booked two weeks off in November with the hope of going to somewhere far away like Thailand or Jamaica, but waiting til September time to see what the situation is before making a call on whether to go anywhere at all. Bit of a risk travelling somewhere only to have to self isolate for the whole duration if I test positive for Covid.

Please bear in mind that many holiday companies will require final balances to be paid between 10-12 weeks prior to your departure date.

To this end, it is important to check where you stand with your Travel Insurance provider; should you have to cancel for any Coronavirus-related reasons - not just medical but also if any restrictions are subsequently imposed by your airline, country of destination, etc.

I would also check their repatriation provision within the policy; should there be any difficulty or delay with your subsequent return to the UK.

We haven't booked a holiday yet, just the time off from work. Going to make a decision in late September and then book it in October if we do decide to go away in November.

I won’t be flying for a long time. Last thing the environment needs is me at 30,000 feet. I hope some good comes out of this pandemic and flying goes back to being very expensive and a special treat rather than getting on a plane for a week in Benidorm.

Not even doing my usual domestic holidays this summer, not worth the risk imo

Had a trip to Portugal booked for the bank holiday weekend but managed to get that pushed back to next year

Looking at a nice excursion to somewhere in Africa or Asia once this has all blown over

If you are thinking of South Africa, it's one of the countries I most often dealt with. It's an absolutely stunning location.

By all means feel free to PM me if you need any help or advice.

Will be spending some time with relatives in Scotland. Spending time with the great unwashed overseas is a risk I don’t want to take.
