Knowing people in some of those countries mentioned, also Philippines, you will find that far more draconian measures were used in the above Countries mentioned to stop the spread of Covid19. As in China, extreme lock-downs including curfews, compulsory use of social distancing and masks, measures that could not be enforced in Uk and even if attempted to be imposed on the population would not be observed by the majority. In areas of Cebu City in the Philippines there is a 8pm to 5am curfew at present, only one registered person per household allowed out of the house to go out for shopping on just one allotted day of the week, compulsory use of face masks outside the home, refusal to do may will lead to arrest. Many police and military out in these countries to monitor the people and I am told military in tanks and armoured cars to be seen in Cebu. OMG, try that in many Cities in UK and see what would happen, same goes for USA. Our people are just not used to be under such strict regimes of the type that you get out in many Far Eastern Countries, if you do not do as you are told, you are in for it. Even though the UK public have been giving the instructions about social distancing and the use of wearing masks, so many ( especially younger people ) have completely ignored the message. I have even been abused and sworn at on 2 separate occasions because when out shopping, i was wearing thin surgeon type gloves, mask and a face visor, I just ignored those 2 idiots and laughed inside myself at their ignorance and stupidity.
''Here are the points to remember for the ECQ in Cebu City:
A. Mandatory Stay-at-home order and curfew. All Cebu City residents are mandated to stay at home, especially before during the curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily. Senior citizens and minors are not allowed to go outside except for emergencies.
Quarantine passes must be brought by residents buying essential goods for their families. Mandatory wearing of masks. Masks should be worn in public places and the law enforcers are tasked to ensure that this is strictly followed.
Individuals not wearing masks may be apprehended.

I bet my partner that within 30 mins of my post you'd come back with some predictable "whataboutery", 5 clown smilies, at least one "Oh", and some rant about the Tories or Boris which was irrelevant to the original point (you chose "the trousers").NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 4:23 pm"Keeping trousers on".faldO wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 3:53 pm The "top advisor" referenced in the link you provided is none other than Professor Neil Ferguson, the lockdown-breaker who couldn't keep his trousers on, resigned in shame, and whose models and predictions are often so far wide of the mark - both during this pandemic and in the past - that many people find it hard to take them seriously any more (except perhaps the government and his own paymasters).
At least if you're going to attempt to discuss science find someone to quote who has some credibility.
Oh the sheer irony of it.
This coming from someone who foreover supports Alexander Johnson and the other Tory . Johnson - a proven liar and racist; who has always found great difficulty 'keeping his trousers on' with multiple partners over many years; resulting in more offspring than he'll ever admit to. A despicable human-being who also used tax-payers money; in return for amorous liaisons with pole-dancing Yank, Jennifer Arcuri, in their Shoreditch love nest.
Whooops sorry........you asked me to find someone who has some credibility.
I was right on 4 out of 5 counts (but only 2 out on the clowns).
Why not read what your favourite source of information said about it and see if you can just take a moment to understand the points being raised and why they at least merit discussion.

I'd have much preferred to have seen troops on UK streets imposing lockdown; than having them involved in illegal wars; backing up the USA and potentially killing innocent people.

No. But at the same time there is also no point saying that a different PM or government would have done anything different.NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 3:45 pmOn that basis, should we absolve Tony Blair for the Iraq War then?
Plus, as mentioned previously it was voted on in Parliament.
I understand party politics but when we come to these unprecedented major threats that are non-political the blaming of a Tory government just because they are Tory, or vice versa, just seems utterly pointless to me.

Maybe you felt it was unjust at the time , but those in westminster voted for the "War to take place "
All but a few voted against.
Jeremy Corbyn Diane Abbott & 1 or 2 other Hard Left mps.
Now that is such a coincidence that
You agreed with Corbyn & Abbott
Did I feel the Iraq War was unjust at the time? Absolutely. Shortly thereafter, I left the Labour Party (rejoining in 2015 when a decent, honest man took back the leadership).

However, when the Tory Government fail to encompass the support of other political parties, the unions, etc. then who do you honestly expect me to point the finger of blame at?
That and the constant Tory Lies; coupled with their abject inability to ever admit blame.
Incompetence is something that we all suffer with to varying degrees. Lying, corruption and utter BS are self-managed choices.

Re: Coronavirus
IMO this is what should have happened for Brexit. Respect the vote and form an all-party group to work on the withdrawal. Instead it spiralled in to a party political fight that bored everyone for years until the public spoke at the election. How different could it have been if the Brexit vote was respected in the first place?NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 6:24 pmIndeed.Ornchurch wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 6:14 pmNo. But at the same time there is also no point saying that a different PM or government would have done anything different.NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 3:45 pm

Following that there is no way on earth that an all-party group would be formed to deal with Covid.

However all media backed it.
As George W had basically called the world out
With his " WITH US OR AGAINST US " quote ,
It then becomes very difficult to step back.
If i was a member of the labour party , im not sure i would have left in protest . I would have stayed like Corbyn did & fought back from within.
Im not a member & have no problem if people decided to leave though. Many ways to skin a cat as they say
