Re: Shamima Begum
Still fully expect the decision to remove her citizenship to be upheld. This will just complicate things after that.

Re: Shamima Begum
nothing racial, I just think its mental that apparently we will start thinking about deporting people that have served a year in prison in the UK, but yet we'll let her back in after joining ISIS? you have to question the logic there
I mean if your already an immigrant, rob a bank, get banged up and then maybe get kicked out of the county and not allowed back, but leave the country of your own choosing, join a terrorist organisation, decide its not for you, and come back?
Surely im not the only one who finds that slightly nuts!

Re: Shamima Begum
Well let's say an immigrant from Norway comes here as a Norwegian citizen, commits murder and we send her where? Norway, she's a citizen. Norway take her as that is the responsible and legal thing to do.Jaggsy1979 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 11:14 am nothing racial, I just think its mental that apparently we will start thinking about deporting people that have served a year in prison in the UK, but yet we'll let her back in after joining ISIS? you have to question the logic there

What about if Norway say, nope, she's your problem now. You keep her. Would we not be a little upset by that?
Begum was born here. Raised here. A citizen here. Why shouldn't we take her back? Where is the logic to NOT?

I love it when newbies jump straight into political threads which are fishing for a response on the day they join the board.Jaggsy1979 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 11:14 am nothing racial, I just think its mental that apparently we will start thinking about deporting people that have served a year in prison in the UK, but yet we'll let her back in after joining ISIS? you have to question the logic there

Re: Shamima Begum
At the end of the day, she hasn't actually killed anyone, has she?
Meanwhile, we have a guy running the Country (apparently!) who is responsible for thousands of deaths.
Think about it!

Re: Shamima Begum
I do get what you're saying, and technically shes performed no crime, so yes theres merit based on that, but she left the country to join a terror organisation that has been involved in multiple attacks worldwide, and she chose to do that, so live with that choice
And to the other comment its not my first day, and to be honest not fishing for a response, just giving my opinion, which is kind of the point of a message board isnt it?

Welcome to the board Jaggsy. You'll learn very quickly that if you post anything political that is perceived to be right of left of centre you will be met with a mixture of incredulity, ridicule, and sometimes abuse.Jaggsy1979 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 11:34 am

On the point of Begum, it was argued at the time she was captured that she should come back to this country and face trial, including by those on the right (Rees-Mogg for example).
She made her life choices, which she is entitled to do, she should not be surprised if everything didn't turn out as rosy as she hoped. In mitigation she was young when she left. Perhaps only because of her age she should come back, be tried, and face a long stretch in prison.

Re: Shamima Begum
I mean if the country she is in are trying to deport her then yes morally I guess we should, as stated by someone else she was born here, so we wouldnt have much of a choice - but if they arent trying to kick her out then I dont see why she shouldnt stay there

Re: Shamima Begum
Anyway part of my point was the ridiculous lack of consistency surrounding our immigration laws, where a bank robber could be kicked out but a wannabe terrorist let back in - thats what I meant by thats a bit nuts
kind of in the same vein that its not been compulsory to wear masks in shops, but then it gets decided near the (hopefully) end stages of the pandemic, that you MUST wear them, but in shops where you might spend under 30 minutes, you dont have to wear them in pubs or offices where you might spend hours, oh and despite the virus still being out there right now, today, you dont HAVE to wear the masks until 24th July? again...logic

Thought about it and came up with this, what a nice lady.NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 11:28 am At the end of the day, she hasn't actually killed anyone, has she?

Sources told The Daily Telegraph that Begum served in ISIL's "morality police", and also tried to recruit other young women to join the jihadist group. She was allowed to carry a Kalashnikov rifle and earned a reputation as a strict enforcer of ISIL's laws, such as dress codes for women. Additionally, an anti-ISIL activist told The Independent that there are separate allegations of "Begum [stitching] suicide bombers into explosive vests so they could not be removed without detonating".

Her 'crimes' are against the British people, so it seems right, that the British people try her in a court of law in Britain.

Re: Shamima Begum
Probably would but will double check her vest first. Oh, you mean about coming back. The government loves this case. All the fury on one little girl keeps minds away from thousands of illegal immigrants coming in daily and whatever other clusterfk they are currently engaged in. I will certainly not be biting especially when she was 15 and groomed. No problem with her back here.
