Wycombe Wanderers

Post by RientO »

When the season was curtailed they were in 8th place.

Now they are in the Championship!

How lucky was that?

Wycombe are a lovely club, with an excellent manager. Ainsworth threw in some cash to the Save the Orient fund run by LOFT.

Well done to Scott Kashket too, after enduring a horrible spell at the O's under Beelzebub he's done really well at Wycombe.

The job Ainsworth has done is absolutely outstanding. To get Wycombe into the Championship is incredible, its not like they're loaded like Salford. I'll definitely be wishing them well next season.

My Posh supporting son is sick that Wycombe replaced Posh in the play-offs.

I agree his view that is seemed likely based on form that Posh would have made it and Wycombe wouldn’t, but there were no fair scenarios and the one used was the least unfair.

Good luck to Wycombe and well done Ainsworth, it’s great to see a club like that progress to the Championship, for it proves it can be done.

Keeping Wycombe up next season will be an even better achievement.
Good luck to them

Very pleased for Wycombe also, and Ainsworth should be getting any managerial awards going as what he’s done far outweighs Klopps achievements at Liverpool, in my opinion.
Klopp as with other PL managers have millions to spend on the best players whereas Wycombe started the pre season training with just 9 players.
I was a bit surprised though that he used Akinfenwa as a sub a she looked a bit unfit to me although he seems a nice guy and how they celebrated at the end.
As Fred says, keeping them up will be a real achievement but Good Luck to them.

Yes absolutely , well done Wycombe. It was a real surprise because I would have put a weeks wages on Oxford winning. I suppose that’s the unpredictability of football. One thing’s for sure, they’ve got to strengthen for that level or they will struggle next season . Ainsworth getting Wycombe into the championship is a fantastic achievement which won’t have gone unnoticed by the vulgars from bigger clubs.

They remind me so much of Slades 2013/2014 team, small squad but the manager has bonded them together and you could see it last night. They dug in after Oxford levelled and I was really please they got the winner.

Yes and their lovely fans
TBF Oxford were the better team but Wycombe showed great battling qualities but had a little bit of luck at vital times.
Stewart at the back was immense and I think he rightly won MOTM

Wycombe is yet another team we used to play on a regular basis, but are now streets ahead of us.....but then they've got Ainsworth, and we've got Ling

I don't know if you noticed, COYOS, but we got relegated twice in recent years prior to Ling being reemployed.

This is exactly why the third tier is the place to be. You routinely get at least a couple of big clubs stranded there, with big stadiums to visit and occasionally win at, some big towns/cities to explore, and just the tiniest prospect of one day really getting into the stratosphere of the Championship.

Personally, I'd love to be looking forward to trips to Sunderland, Ipswich and Portsmouth next season (plus Blackpool, Oxford, Bristol, Shrewsbury, Lincoln, Rochdale & Burton). Although COYOs did go a bit over the top upthread, I do get the gist of what he's saying...

Apart from the fact that Ainsworth favours ugly rough-em-up hoofball, which I always prefer to see go unrewarded, it’s hats off to the Wanderers. Nice ground too - shame it’s stuck at the end of an industrial estate with no pubs around or a station nearby.
