How many ST holders at the Orient ? about 3,000 or more ? so if the capacity gets cut to, say, 2,000 for social distancing (for example) - how does the club choose who gets in?
Presumably be a draw in the supporters club, where all the supporters club members and podcast lads and superfans plus their friends names miraculously get drawn out.

Agreed. Orient are a bit of an exception in that they are within an hour of 5 of the biggest stadiums in the country, some league 1/league 2 clubs wouldn’t have access to a large stadium, or there would be a large number of them competing to play at the same large stadium. But with a bit of will power it could be done.
You're just looking at Orient. What about the other 70 league clubs? They can't all play at the big PL grounds.
That's not a reason to say that we can't though is it. Your view means because some can't it means everyone shouldn't... For one season I don't see why that should stop clubs like Orient trying to survive. And also, it doesn't have to be big premiership grounds. Take Forest Green as an example there's no reason they couldnt safely take 4,000 at Ashton gate Bristol and all safely , 'socially distance' is there?
My view is that if some teams can play in a different stadium with supporters present then they all should as it starts going against fairness. If it is decided that it is ok for ALL League 1 and 2 teams to do it then fine but where would someone like Sunderland go? In this scenario Orient could play at Charlton as that would be big enough.

I was just watching a recording of this mornings Andrew Marr show where an expert on this subject said much the same as the BBC news report below, e.g that this virus can be airborne and can hang around in enclosed spaces for a very long time.

Coronavirus: WHO rethinking how Covid-19 spreads in air 8 July 2020 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-53329946

''For months, the WHO has insisted that Covid-19 is transmitted via droplets emitted when people cough or sneeze. Droplets that do not linger in the air, but fall onto surfaces - that's why handwashing has been identified as a key prevention measure, but 239 scientists from 32 countries don't agree: they say there is also strong evidence to suggest the virus can also spread in the air: through much tinier particles that float around for hours after people talk, or breathe out. Today the WHO admitted there was evidence to suggest this was possible in specific settings, such as enclosed and crowded spaces.
That evidence will have to be thoroughly evaluated, but if it is confirmed, the advice on how to prevent the virus spreading may have to change, and could lead to more widespread use of masks, and more rigorous distancing, especially in bars, restaurants, and on public transport''

Yes I've heard this Sid, which automatically makes all social distancing redundent anyway, because if it hangs in the air it doesn't matter if you're a foot away from someone or 10 metres. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Non league step3 and below want to start again in September. Possibly crowds of maximum 500-1000 depending on the size of the stadium. Most attendances at that level are small anyway. Still be issues around toilets facilities, clubhouses etc but you would imagine that this is quite realistic.

100% agree
There are many people who seemingly dont understand the seriousness of this virus. while the government is opening up the country, the number of infections is getting higher.
They'll be no football or anything else soon, unless the virus subsides rapidly
The infection rate isn't getting higher COYOs, the numbers go up and down depending how many tests are carried out, when you work out the % of positive cases against test being carried out the virus is still shrinking slowly.
Sorry, but I beg to differ. I have a very good article in one of the papers, but can't find it. If I can locate it, I shall link it on here.
In the meantime, we have Leicester locked down again, and another dozen or so places on the verge of lockdown because infection rates are climbing again.
Yesterday there were 820 new infections....... This is the highest number for 13 days, since 28 June, when there were 901.
At this rate, we will have over 1000 new infections per day within a fortnight.
I'm worried, I'll make no apology for saying that

If it comes to a draw anyone on here is welcome to my "in person" slot. Won't be going anywhere near public transport for the foreseeable and haven't driven to the ground since the City of London made that ridiculous decision to stop letting Orient fans use the carpark at Spitalfields some years back.

Whatever happens I think it's time that the 3pm broadcast ban is dropped permanently. Fans should be able to watch their team live through whatever medium they feel comfortable, be it at the ground, on TV or via internet streaming. Now more than ever.

Infection rate has fallen for second successive week https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... -toll.html also https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274 Cases in hotspots around the UK are generally falling too.

Yesterday's 820 infections from 160,970 tests 0.00050 cases vs tests
Today 650 infections from 134, 890 tests 0.00046 cases vs tests

Public Health England did 25,000 random tests last week and found hardly any positive cases.

Fine to be scared it's not a nice virus but cases are falling. Always going to spikes and local lock downs and at some point we might have a second wave, but for not for now.

Orient’s capacity is 9000 and there’s between 2 and 3000 ST holders (what about the phantom kids?). Ban away supporters from grounds too. You could also stop fans from coming who have to travel a substantial distance or prioritise local fans first

You could probably socially distance 3000 fans in our ground with careful planning as far as seating is concerned, there won't be away fans at games for a long time IMHO. Toilets, Tea Bars, Entrance and Exit areas would need to be carefully managed. PersonalIy I wouldn't use public transport, I would drive to as near to the ground as possible.

The majority of O's fans live some way away from the vicinity of the ground (mainly Essex) if you prioitise "local" fans you wouldn't have many there.

Local could mean in the borough and those in Essex or London who can get to the ground by 1 train

When a poll of where O's fans live was done on here Two or Three years ago we had about 30 fans living in LBWF, I wouldn't really encourage anyone to use public transport at the moment safer by car/park/walk. As gshaw pointed out it was a crazy decision by the City of London Corporation to stop car parking at Spitalfields a few seasons back.

So, how would you solve the ‘toilet issue’? Will all patrons be given an allocated time to spend a penny?

The cost of a "clean" - both before and after - would make this cost prohibitive. Add the fact that the additional revenue streams (beer/burgers) are likely to be off limits - then it would cripple any lower league club trying to use a bigger ground.

Agree, at least for the coming season, make it possible quote....
''Fans should be able to watch their team live through whatever medium they feel comfortable, be it at the ground, on TV or via internet streaming. Now more than ever.''
If little to no income through people watching in the ground attending the match, income generated via internet streaming etc will be a massive help towards helping the football clubs survive.

Can we even contemplate lower league football in front of fans, in the near future?

Post by ComeOnYouOs »

I dont think theres a chance, Orient will be playing in front of spectators in 2020.
The virus is not going away, and in fact the opposite is true, will local flare-ups all over the country.
What on earth is going to happen to league 1 & 2 football, i have no idea, but I can see more than a few clubs going bust in the next 12 months.
Maybe a little of the millions going to the Premier League needs to temporarily be diverted to league 1 & 2

You could get a really small number in and maintain social distancing - say 500-1,000. Maybe just charge a select few wealthy fans an astronomical amount to keep income levels the same?
